28 - CHRISTOPHER

"I never expect much from you but this time you have beyond surprised me," Zabdiel shook his head as he coldly chuckled.

Christopher still couldn't believe what he had done. He was changing his whole life— his future. He was terrified because this time he really didn't know what was to come.

"At least you didn't let her get to the point where she fell in love because that would have been a mess."

"It's the only thing that makes sense..." Christopher mumbled to himself as he stared into space. "Why else would Donna interfere twice?"

Zabdiel side-eyed Christopher, annoyed with his indecisive actions and his confusing monologue. "I don't know what you're saying but whatever. No sabes lo quieres. Por favor, Chris... madura."

Earlier that day, Christopher was preparing himself as to what to say to Nina. He rehearsed his lines and even wrote some things on his notes app so he wouldn't forget a thing. He didn't practice anything for Donna because, in his mind, that was going to be the easiest out of the two.

However, when Chrisotpher met up with Donna, she was different. She was calm, sweet-talking and even shy. She wasn't anything like the Donna he always had in mind. She told him she really liked him and actually wanted to try things out. She was genuine and that's what stumped Christopher.

What if the universe gave him another chance because he kept going after the wrong girl?

What if Nina wasn't the one and all along it was Donna?

"Zabdiel?"

Joel leaned against the counter near the door as he slipped his shoes off. "Zabdiel, I thought you were gonna wait for me. What the heck?"

"It's me, Joel," Christopher clarified with a sigh. "Zab went to his room. What happened?"

Joel's eyes shot up and he became instantly nervous. He smiled but Christopher knew him well enough to know something had happened.

"Nothing, just something silly. I'm going to sleep so um bye–"

"Aren't you going to ask me how things with Nina went?"

Christopher was too absorbed with himself to even realize how troubled Joel reacted to his question. Between Zabdiel and Joel, Christopher knew Joel was more involved with the Nina situation. Not to mention that Nina and Joel were pretty good friends in this universe as well.

"Oh... right. What happened?"

"I think I'm going to give Donna a chance."

Joel stared at him blankly and inhaled loudly. "Not surprised. I'm going to sleep so please don't put your music on."

"You're not going to lecture me? For getting Nina's hope up?"

"Why would I?" Joel asked rather exhausted. "This isn't the first time you do this so it'll be useless for me to do so. Just be careful, Christopher. Karma's a bitch."

Christopher heavily sighed as he stared at the email from Mullings the next day. Despite the fact that he already knew he wasn't going to be accepted, it still brought great disappointment. He had a tiny bit of hope that maybe because things changed with Nina, maybe some things would've changed career-wise.

Now, he had to wait. He had already applied to what would be his permanent job so he was able to relax. At this point, Christopher didn't know what to do. His sole reason to go back in time was to win Nina back but now that he wasn't going to do that... what was he supposed to do?

"Yo, Chris," Joel called out. "I'm going out. Tell Zab not to forget to call the AC guy."

Christopher childishly skipped to the living room with his hands behind his back and a grin. "Donde vas?"

"Out," Joel replied as he took the key from its place.

"Smelling that good?"

The curly-haired boy sighed because whatever Christopher said always ignited a deep sigh from his soul. "I always try to smell good."

Christopher's smiled wide at Joel's annoyance. "I know you do, Joelito. Have fun."

Joel only looked at Christopher a fraction of a second, but it was intense enough to show a slight discomfort. A reason for this didn't really cross Christopher's mind so he assumed he just read his friend wrong.

"I'll try," Joel mumbled. "Maybe I shouldn't go."

"No, señor," Christopher suck his teeth as he opened the main door and pushed Joel outside the house. "Go, bro. You deserve to have fun too."

"But–"

"No buts," Christopher cut him short. "Vete. I don't want to see you until eight."

With that, Christopher slammed the door shut and sighed in satisfaction. He had the house all for himself which meant: he could do whatever he wanted.

Chris
come over.

let's have a nice date at my house.
