08- CHRISTOPHER
"The movies? Who's idea was this?" Chris retorted as he grumpily slipped his shoe in.
"Perla," Nina smiled, happy that she was finally able to spend time with Chris on the weekend. "We're gonna see Ad Astra."
"What the hell does that even mean?"
"I don't know but the plot sounds interesting so please try to enjoy. This is the first time we spend time together after so long."
"Anyone else going?"
Nina stood by the bedroom window, alert in case her friends showed up earlier than expected. "Zab and Joel."
At least I'll have their company. "Cool."
"They're here! Let's go, I have the snacks in my purse." Nina cheerily said before racing down the small hallway. "Come on baby, they're honking already!"
Christopher didn't know why it all seemed like a burden to him, he told himself he would devote some time to Nina because after all, she was the girl he was planning on marrying. Yet his body and his state of mind went against his wishes, irritated that he had to leave his house.
"Hey, guys!" Nina greeted once she opened the car door but stopped when she saw the curly-haired boy in the backseat. "Joel in the backseat? Que milagro!"
Softly urging her in, Chris put his hands on the small of Nina's waist to get her in the car quicker. She sat in the middle, grinning at the boy next to her before wrapping her arms around his waist. Christopher didn't see anything wrong with it, seeing as they had all been friends for a long time. Aside from that, everyone was well aware that Chris wasn't exactly the jealous type until he was completely sure someone was truly hitting on his girl. So he disregarded the small gesture between the two, taking his phone out to play some game instead.
"Perla beat me," Joel murmured. "She really wanted to sit next to Zabdiel I guess."
"Oye!" The blonde jeered, turning her head around to glower at the boy.
Nina giggled and Chris barely smiled because they both knew that Perla was crushing hard on Zabdiel. Chris took a moment to observe his soon to be wife and it didn't take too long for a genuine smile to spread on his face. She spent most of the car ride laughing and joking around with Perla and Joel. Though she hadn't commented on Christopher's obvious distaste of their outing, she knew it was best to not talk to him too much. Nina was perfect at reading Chris and his whole body language and right now she knew that Chris wasn't in the mood for anything. Yet despite all this, her hand never left his. Her small soft thumb lovingly rubbed his knuckle as she talked with the others. The back of her body pressed against his shoulder because even though he wasn't in the conversation, she wanted to feel him.
"Gemini Man is on my list and I'll go even if none of you meanie's don't," Joel said as he unbuckled his seatbelt. "Some friends you guys are."
"Aw," Nina cooed as she also prepared to get out the car. "I wanna go with you, Joey. I saw the trailer and it looks so cool."
As the group of friends piled up into the theatre, Christopher let his mind wander to the redhead he had left. Donna has been begging Christopher to tell Nina he had a business trip so he could spend the weekend with her but he couldn't. Nina wasn't exactly trusting him as much anymore and he could sense that. For a business trip to randomly pop up it would be suspicious.
Donna practically kicked him out of her place, sobbing as she dragged him out. She seemed truly hurt and it was an image that seemed impossible to get out of the head.
"Are you okay, amor?" Nina whispered as they stood in line.
"I'm fine," he grumbled. "My head's hurting a little, that's all."
Christopher couldn't seem to enjoy the rest of the night with his friends or fiancée. He felt really bad about Donna because he knew she had strong feelings for him. He felt it too but he was still unsure of everything. Nothing was able to bring him to life that night which brought Nina down as well. Chris saw that she was somewhat embarrassed due to her tinted cheeks whenever she asked him something and he would respond absentmindedly. She excused him by telling them that he wasn't feeling well and they seem to buy it.
The ride back home was painfully uncomfortable. Nina didn't speak or laugh. She would occasionally smile but it was like her happiness was sucked in matter of hours and it was all his fault. Yet Christopher couldn't bring himself to feel sorry or to even worry about her at the moment.
"Goodnight, guys. Thanks for tonight." She sweetly thanked before closing the door to the car.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow," Joel said after scrolling the window down midway. "Remember, Gemini Man?"
Smiling midway, Nina nodded and waved them off before walking past Christopher. He numbly trailed behind her to their house, his mind still not at peace.
"I'm tired," she mumbled. "Goodnight."
He didn't want to deal with her but the only way for him to relax was to go to bed as well. He waited a few minutes to go to the shared bedroom, waiting for her to be in bed. As he had calculated, the girl was in bed with the sheets completely engulfing her small body. Christopher took his shirt off and switched into sweatpants before finally going to bed. He turned his back to his fiancée, not even paying attention to the small sniffles. Everything was going over his hand because his mind only thought of the crying redhead. Though Chris always came late, he never forgot to hug Nina as she slept. Even if he didn't position himself like that in the beginning, he always found himself holding her the next day.
But this time, he couldn't because his body didn't want it. He didn't want Nina, he wanted Donna.
