17 - CHRISTOPER

"I found her Instagram," Christopher beamed at his phone. "I can't believe I found it."

"Wow you're whipped," Richard commented from behind him. "She looks more like Joel's type."

"What?" Christopher mumbled becoming tense and almost paranoid.

"A ver," Zabdiel lowly said as he approached the two. "Oh yeah."

"Oh yeah, what?" Christopher said with clenched teeth. "What do you mean, Zabdiel?"

"She's natural. She looks sincera y genuina. Ósea, don't get me wrong she's beautiful but I do see her more as Joel's type."

"Maybe you're just infatuated. Don't you remember that this happened last time with Celeste? You said she was perfect – different even. Turns out, you just wanted to get her in bed." Richard commented with laughter. "Man, that was bad."

"Tiene razón. Evítale el sufrimiento. Además, Joel needs a girl."

Joel and Nina. Nina and Joel. Oh won't they just be the perfect couple? After all, you broke her heart. He treats her right. Not you.

"Stop!" Christopher snapped. "Stop, okay? I- I really like this girl. It's different this time so forget it. I won't give her to Joel."

"Well I mean," Richard nervously chuckled. "She's not really yours to give. We were just saying she'd look better with Joel."

"Maybe she'll change him," Zabdiel said with a short shrug. "You never know. Miracles happen."

"It's been a week, Zabdiel," Christopher whined hopelessly as he complained to his friend who was making lunch.

"A week since what?" A voice interjected faintly. "Why have you been so whiney lately?"

Zabdiel side-eyed Christopher but kept his mouth shut. He didn't see why he should keep it away from Joel. It's not like Joel would actually make fun of him because if anything he would probably be happy about it.

"Oh," Christopher stammered. "It's been a week since I heard back from Mulling's. I tried to reschedule for another interview but I haven't heard anything back."

"Oh man, that sucks. Have you tried other companies?"

"Yeah but I haven't heard anything either."

Joel softly patted his back before sneaking behind Zabdiel and taking a piece of chicken. "By the way, I'm having a friend over. That bio professor is already making us work in groups."

"That's fine, I made enough food for ten people." Zabdiel smiled. "When are they coming?"

As if on cue, a soft knock followed his question. "There she is."

"She?" Christopher said in awe. "Joelito made a girl friend?"

"Shut up and please be nice. She's not that type of girl so please control yourself. I mean it, Chris."

"What, why me?"

Ignoring his question, Joel walked away from his friend with a scoff. Christopher was aware of his "not-so-good" tendencies but he wanted to change. And if avoiding women for a while did just that then he'd stop.

"I guess I'll go to my room," Christopher groaned once he heard the light voice of a girl.

"You're not going to eat?"

"Oh right." The boy mumbled as he went straight to the hot pot with a smile.

"Guys," Joel reappeared at the kitchen door. "This is my bio partner, Nina."

Christopher had never whipped his head around so fast in his life before. The girl standing next to Joel was his Nina. This couldn't be happening. This didn't originally happen; why was it happening now? This has to be a dream.

"Hey, you're the guy I saw a week ago!" Nina exclaimed. "Christopher, right?"

"Oh," Zabdiel shakily muttered. "This is Nina? Oh, man."

The brunet began to laugh without reason, looking at Christopher's priceless face and how he was trying to process everything. So much for keeping the secret away from Joel.

"Oh, you guys met?" Joel said as he tried to devise the center of attention off his laughing friend.

"Yeah, he helped me with directions about a week ago."

"What a coincidence then." Joel smiled before sighing. "Well, we gotta get working. We'll be down later to eat."

"You're going to work in your room?" Christopher asked with an almost twitchy smile.

"Yeah?" Joel answered as he looked at Chris weirdly. "Are you good, man?"

"He's fine," Zabdiel defended. "He hasn't eaten yet so he's acting like that."

"Right..." Joel trailed off awkwardly. "Well, see you all in a bit."

Christopher helplessly watched the two go up to Joel's room with big smiles slapped onto their faces.  It was happening again. Joel was taking her away from him. He was interfering with their love life and he didn't know how to get them away from each other. It was as if knowing you're going to have a bad ending but you don't know what to do.

"I don't know what to say," Zabdiel breathily said. "Estas bien?"

"Zabdiel," Christopher muttered with clenched fists.

"Yeah?"

"We have to get those two away from each other. I don't care what it takes but Joel isn't taking her away from me this time. I won't let him."
