Chapter Twenty-Seven:
The scars which death never healedBella was conflicted. She thought that her and Alina had bonded over the last few weeks in between the time she had spent in La Push with Jacob Black. But she felt like Alina still wasn't telling her everything. So there was one was way to find out.
"Why are you here?"
Alina looked up and hummed for Bella to continue. She was confused as in what she was asking her to answer. Alina was under the impression that Bella wanted her too stay.
"I mean. Why haven't you gone to find Jasper. If I knew where E-he was, I'd go there in an instant. And yet you're here. Why?"
"Not important." Alina snapped, before rushing out of the room.

It had been days since Bella had asked Alina why she was staying in Forks. And it had stumped the vampire. Why wasn't she with Jasper? She could leave anytime, she knew many trackers, few own which owed her a favour or two.
Was it because she was scared? Maybe. Jasper thought she was dead; how would he react to her being alive? Alina didn't know if Jasper would want to see her and Alina wasn't prepared to know if Jasper was better off without her. She couldn't stand the thought of being abandoned again.
MANY YEARS AGO
Mary-Anne Roswell searched through her kitchen cabinets, looking for a bandage. Her fifteen year old daughter, Alina, had been hurt. Although she refused to tell her mother what had happened, she still tried to find out.
"Please, Darling, tell me what happened." She begged as she finally found what she was looking for. She walked over to her daughter and started dressing the wound on her hand.
"It's all my fault."
"What is?"
"He left me." Alina cried out, reaching forward to her mother in her grief. She had been left alone in the streets. And that's when the robbers came, taking everything she had and left her beaten in the middle of the cobblestone road.
"Who did?" Mary-Anne asked, although she had an idea on who it was: William Lightwood. He had been trying to court Alina for many months now but she didn't seem to be open to the idea. And although Mary-Anne didn't want to force her daughter into any form of life she didn't want, she had no choice. The Lightwoods were the most powerful family in the village and they could ruin Alina and everything her father had built before he died if she didn't accept.
"HIM." Alina spat out in disgust, "I thought he wanted me. He tried for so long and he just left me there. He left me to die."
"You loved him, didn't you?"
"Would that be so bad? I know everyone wants us to marry. But before today, I thought that we could have a life together. I am not so sure now, mother."
