Chapter Forty: Magazine

Alina sighed as she flipped through her paintbrushes in the pot on the windowsill, trying to find the small detailing brush she had brought after she snapped the last one not too long ago. Picking it up, she returned back to the painting of her old home, adding the last detail onto the cat that was on the doorstep.

It was strange for her to see her home in such detail, especially since she hadn't seen it since she turned. She had refused to go back as an immortal to save her mother of the heartache of seeing her dead daughter alive again only for her to disappear a few years later. When she did visit ten years ago, it had been demolished and instead it was a school that was there.

Swiftly, Alina picked up the canvas and made her way up to the attic of the home. She placed it down in the corner with her other finished pieces. Turning around, Alina walked down the stairs, trying to fight the memories of her past life away. The past is in the past and she needed to remember it.

"What is Alice doing?" She asked as she finally made it to the living room.

"Planning Edward and Bella's wedding," Said Rosalie before she moved over on the sofa, "Come sit. She'll want your opinion."

Alina made her way over, and picked up a magazine from the arm of the chair. Or at least she tried too, her hand went straight through again. On her second attempt she managed to grasp it.

"What was that?"

Of course Rosalie had seen it. It was hard getting away with much in a house full of vampires. Alina looked around before answering. "What was what?"

"Don't play dumb, it's insulting. I saw your hand pass through the magazine. What was that?"

"Oh that." Alina laughed nervously.

"Well..."

"I think it might be my gift. I've been able to do that since I woke up in Phoenix."

"How come you didn't tell us?"

"Ah. I couldn't really start with 'Hi guys... I am not dead, but I have all the properties of a ghost.' Could I?"

Rosalie hummed, satisfied with the answer, "You were going to tell us though, right?"

"Yes I was. I just wanted to wait until Bella wasn't in danger."

"Yeah, like that'll ever happen," Rosalie snorted.

"She's not so bad."

"I know. It's just a bit funny to see her so nervous."

Alice had finally snapped out of the frenzy she was in trying to organise Bella and Edward's wedding in such a short period of time. Especially since Bella gave no input of what she wanted or didn't want involved. Rosalie and Alina had been watching her for some time, finding her franticness highly amusing.

"I don't think you have an input," Alice snapped at Alina after she suggested having Bella wear flats during the day, "not after what you did!"

"Are you still annoyed with me?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Do you know how long I've been planning your wedding only for you to go to a 24hour chapel!"

"If it makes you feel any better, it wasn't my idea." Alina weakly defended.

"You still agreed." Alice said as Alina stood up to leave the room, unable to contain her giggles. In retaliation, Alice picked up a glossy magazine and launched it at a retreating Alina, catching her on the head.
