"Y/N! Get up, breakfast is ready!" Two-Bit yelled, rapping on the door to Y/Ns door harshly. The light was bright, streaming through her window, causing her to rub her eyes in annoyance. She looked over to greet her mom, and saw the sheets ruffled, but empty. She slept. For Y/N, sleep did nothing to ease her worries and memories from last night. She couldn't shake the conversation she walked in on last night. Frustrated, she pushed her head into her pillow, vainly hoping to shake the thought from her head. At least she had one other worry to occupy her mind today. She'd meet Two-Bits friends.
Looking in the mirror, she decided to wear her hair down, and went with natural makeup. Mascara and rouge across her lips and eyelids. The dark denim, flared pants from yesterday would do, but she'd switch up the shirt, to a shorter dark denim tank, tied at the front.
"You look nice," Two said, shaving, when she came to check her hair in the bathroom, "Dressing up for anyone."
"Shut up," Y/N said, her cheeks burning, "I don't need anyone to dress nice for. It's not like wear a muumuu around the house. I wear stuff like this all the time. I'm dressing like someone from this decade."
"I believe you."
"Fine."
"Keith, Tara, Y/N! Breakfast, cmon now!"
"Let's go, Keith," hissed Y/N smugly, just barely dodging a smack in the back of the head from Two-Bit.
Breakfast was grey looking eggs, with burnt bacon. But it didn't matter. Looking at her mother, puffy eyed, but significantly more cheerful than last night, got the better of her appetite. Marie sat at the table drinking a cup of coffee and flipping through the newspaper, while May rushed around ironing her diner uniform. Two wolfed down his eggs, Y/Ns eggs, and a beer.
"Alright, Marie, if I'm not back by seven, heat the leftovers from last night," May spoke quickly, looking for her house keys, "Tara, please stay by the house when you're playing, Two, come home at a reasonable hour and not dead drunk, you have school tomorrow, Y/N darling hold him to that, if anything happens Marie, we've got all the business cards on the fridge, I love y'all, see you tonight!" And with that she walked out the door and hoped in the car, leaving the house in silence.
Y/N looked at her mom, who was humming along to the radio, and flipping to funnies. How could she act so normal? Who was her mother? The woman in hysterics, drunk, crying or laughing, or who knows? Or the happy single mother, who heated up dinners, and cleaned the house? It was uncomfortable.
"Alright kid, let's get, the gangs waiting, bye aunt Marie, see y'all later, bye Tara!," shouted Two-Bit grabbing his beer and jacket.
"Bye love, bye bye Y/N have a lovely time!"
"Bye," muttered Y/N, before slamming the door harshly.
The walk to the Curtis' house was about 5 minuits, and it took place in silence, with Y/N biting the inside of her mouth nervously. What if they didn't like her? What if she blew her one chance of friends? What if she did embarrass Two-Bit? What if-
"So, what's with the cold shoulder for you mom today kid?" Asked Two, taking a swig from his beer bottle.
Her mom? Was he serious? "Not in the mood to talk about that," she said curtly before turning to him, "tell me about your friends, are they nice, what should I say or not say or-"
"Shoot, take it easy," Two-Bit laughed, amused at her worry, "Listen they're cool, just
be yourself.""You're a huge help, really, thank you a lot."
Two-Bit laughed before opening the door to the Curtis house.
"Shouldn't you knock?"
"Nah."
The house was small and rundown, like Two's place. It was loud, and smoky, filled with music, and laughter. She could make out Maybellene, by Chuck Berry playing
somewhere. In the living room were six boys, two arm wrestling, two boys laying poker and laughing loudly, and two sitting and observing the scene together. She recognized one of the quiet ones to be Ponyboy. He met her eyes and smiled at her, and she relaxed, and smiled back, at ease to see someone familiar."Woah, woah, woah, quiet down y'all, we've got a guest," said Two-Bit, gesturing dramatically for quiet. The boys turned, as if noticing the girl for the first time. "Now y'all this is my kid cousin Y/N, she just moved here, so be nice." She smiled and waved shyly. The guys all either grunted or waved or gave a quick smile. Two bit began introducing them.
First he introduced Ponyboy, he was a smart kid, liked books and writing and movies, and today Y/N saw he was wearing a white baggy shirt, with his hair pushed out of his eyes. He shared a warm smile with her.
Next was Johnny Cade. Johnny was a quiet jumpy kid. He had a hard time meeting her eyes, and he was young, 16. He had dark, almost black hair, and deep dark eyes. Like a puppy.
Steve Randle, was a rough guy, 17 years old. He had dark brown greasy hair, and crooked teeth, and worked at the DX station. He was smart. Could steal cars and jump fences like no one else.
Sodapop Curtis , was gold. He was handsome, 16 years old. He dropped out of school and worked at the DX station with Steve. He had light eyes and soft long hair, kept gelled like everyone else. He was Pony's older brother, and you could tell they were close. He was beautiful, and popular, and basically took away her breath.
Darrel or Darry, was the oldest of the group, 20, and the oldest Curtis brother. He worked, labour jobs mostly, to support the boys after their parents died a couple years back. He was tall, and powerful. With dark hair and cool eyes. He was stern and intimidating, but you could see a sort of softness he had towards his friends and brothers.
Last was Dallas Winston. Dallas was 17 and mean. He'd been in prison. He was hard and cold and scary. His hair was a warm brown, and so were his eyes. He didn't use gel like everyone else, so his hair fell into his eyes a lot. He wore a class ring, and a brown jacket. He smoked, lied, drank, stole, fought and cheated, and he wouldn't deny it if you asked.
