"Y-y-you lied!" my dad yelled at Lady Gisela. "You said they were torturing her!"
Lady Gisela tsked, "Well I never said exactly that, did I?" She enacted a swift motion of her hands and two figures grabbed my mom and dad. They pressed my parents' temple as they collapsed. Ruy then trapped them in a force field.
"NOOO," I screamed. They were using the same trick with their encounter with the dwarves. No. No no no. I couldn't let Gisela win. Fire and rage boiled inside of me, bubbling and rising, itching to come out. No. They already tried to take my family once. It won't happen again. I won't let them. I won't let them.
"Foster, breathe." A voice next to me said. I felt a cool breeze sweep across my body. I looked down to see Keefe's hand on mine with my glove on the floor.
I shook my hand off his, "Lay off Keefe. Just leave me alone!"
He grabbed my hand again, "No. Sophie I'm not going to let you get hurt for what my mom does. She wants me. And if that's what that means to keep you safe then so be it."
"Don't even think about it, Keefe."
He sucked in a breath, "Sorry already have." I shook his hand off and instead I grabbed his hand. "You're not going anywhere.
"Sophie, just STOP!" Keefe yelled his voice rising with every word.
Suddenly I felt an overwhelming sensation to let Keefe go. To stand by and watch and do absolutely nothing. I let go of my grip on Keefe and just stood there. I fought with every urge to move, to help them but I just couldn't.
"No no no no. What have I done?" I heard Keefe mumbling. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Tam, Fitz, Linh, Dex, Biana in the same position as me. Amy had a terrified look on her face and Fanny had a facade of pure confusion. I couldn't blame her though.
A maniacal laugh erupted from the corner of the alley, "That's my boy."
"Just shut up!" Keefe screamed, tears rolling down his face. "Unfreeze!"he yelled, his voice cracking. "UNFREEZE!" Still nothing. "Go! Come! Unstop?!"
Lady Gisela chuckled, "You thought it would be that easy? You underestimated me once again."
Keefe curled his fists, "How come you didn't freeze up, oh Queen of Everything?"
"Sweetheart, you realize I created your ability. I'm fairly sure I thought through everything thoroughly." Gisela looked at her nails, "Onto the next item up for bid. I'm planning to offer you a deal. Take it or leave it no in between?" Gisela cocked her head. "You give me... that girl," she said pointing towards Fanny, "and I'll tell you how to control your 'powers' we'll say so you can free your little girlfriend."
Vespera, who I had forgotten was here, raised her eyebrows, "That wasn't part of the plan. You were supposed to kill him." If Keefe was baffled by the statement he didn't show it.
Instead Gisela ignored her, "You have a minute to decide and your time starts now."
I tightened my face as much as I could trying to tell him not to accept the deal. But of course, that didn't work.
"Deal," Keefe said, quickly. In fact, way quicker than he should have. There was something I'm missing. I could feel it. "But tell me how to control them first."
"Very well then. It's just like Sophie's enhancing abilities. Reach inside yourself into your heart. Feel your emotions. Concentrate. It'll click."
Keefe squeezed his eyes shut and took a deep breath. He stayed like that for probably about a minute. Suddenly he gasped and I could feel the sensation disappear. As Keefe opened his eyes, he nodded and before I knew what he was doing, Tam threw a shadow spear at Gisela. Ruy flickered off the force field in an attempt to trap us but Tam enacted something with his hands which cause the shadowspear to split into two, one hitting Gisela and the other hitting Ruy. Dex, Biana, Amy and Fanny went to my parents while I just stood still. I didn't know what was happening.
"I told her we should have killed him off," Vespera grumbled. She took two goblin stars out of her coat pocket and threw one towards Tam and one towards Keefe. But Linh called in a wave to block it. She used the same wave and hurled it back at Vespera. She collapsed into a heap, probably unconscious from the blow. Linh walked over to her and dragged her unconcious body to the rest of them.
Keefe smirked, something I haven't seen for a really long time, "Good job, guys."
"W-w-what just happened?" I asked.
Keefe laughed, "Foster, Foster, Foster. Always so oblivious. I'll explain it to you later. We need to figure out what to do with your parents."
I sighed, "Right. We should take them to the Lost Cities." I looked at Amy, "Are you okay?"
Her face was grimy with dirt and sweat and her eyes were bloodshot, "No. I don't think I am, Sophie."
I moved closer to her and wrapped my arms around her, "It'll be alright Amy. I'm so, so sorry I dragged you into this."
"Um, I hate to interrupt the moment but we gotta get back. It's almost sunrise and people might start coming here," Fitz reminded.
I nodded, "Yeah we should probably get going. We'll figure everything out when we get to Mr. Forkle."
"Question: How are we going to get them back," Dex asked motioning to the unconscious Neverseen members.
I gave them a sly smile, "I've got an idea for that." I closed my eyes. Silveny? Are you there? I transmitted.
SOPHIE! SOPHIE! HERE! HERE!
I need a favor. We need a ride.
SOPHIE! RIDE! KEEFE!
I smiled, Yes Keefe's here.
COMING!
The next instant there was a rumble and the sky split open. Two bird looking figures came flying from the clouds.
"Ayyy Glitterbutt! Over here! God it feels nice to talk," Keefe called out.
Silveny and Greyfell landed in the alley. We loaded everyone onto the alicorns. "Let's go."
We flew off into the night sky to a place called home.
And that home for me was the Lost Cities.
