Chapter 1

Dear Diary,

We lost another city today,or it at least I think they are gone. Since 3 days we had no sign,no letter or any other prove that the people in StarCity survived. Pitty,that were good,hard-working people and also one of the last friendly citys that were left.It feels like all of the normal people dissappear slowly,it feels like most of our friends are gone.Well probably because most of our friends really are gone.

It feels like hell,sitting around useless or go and hunt during other citys are fighting for their life. All we can do is wait,such things happen nowadays,and we are not able to change that. Its way to late for us to fight against the problems that our anchestors denied a long time ago. If they had done something about 200 years ago,when the 21.th century just started,maybe,just maybe we wouldnt be in that situation now. Why has noone tried to stop climate change? or atomic weapons?or... however,i am overthinking to much,they did nothing and we cant change that now. It is what it is and we learned to live on this planet anyways.

I hope this extremistic group,i think they call themselve „the reign" ,had nothing to do with the loss of StarCity,but our leader is not that optimistic.

She never was an optimist,and i feel like it all is my fault.After our parents died while an huge earthquake I had the responsibillity for me and Lexi for years where we two survived without the society and i always educated her to be a strong and independent woman.However i failed in some way ,because afterwards i realised that a child also need love and hugs and that stuff and she never got much from me.I was too hard to her and often yelled at her and even if i am really proud of what she became,i mean she is the leader of whole Metropolis,i regret that i never showed her that she is loved.That is the biggest mistake i ever made and as our anchestors,i already screwed it up,there is no way to get this time back. One of the citizants interruppted her."Lena?do you have a minute to come outside?"

She put the pen and her diary under her pillow and went outside with him to see whats wrong.Everything seemed normal and familiar,but the whole society came together as Lexi called them for an emergency meeting.Her face was clouded and the look she gave the people was dark and concerned.While she looked through the crowd,her eyes searched something,no not something, someone,Lena! Lexi looked into these green tired eyes of her sister and began to speak:"Our friends from StarCity are probably gone."The crowd gasped as if they were one."I think they were attacked...I am sorry but I think we are not safe here anymore." Her eyes seemed sorry, even a little worried, but strong for them,as if there was an solution for their problem. Lexi would always find a way to protect them.Thats what they wanted to see.

As her sister,Lena knew it better.there was such a huge fear in the young womans eyes and they lost all of their sparks,even if she was really good at hiding it.She was overwhelmed and desperated.She was able to read her sister,she learned it in all these years they spend together.And so she was the only one of the nearly 50 citizents that realised a littel crack in her voice as she continued her speech:"Its this group,the reign, they attack the peaceful citys.I dont know what their intentions are or how we can fight them.We always lived more or less peaceful with the other citys.We never learned to fight and so i am asking you,do you wanna fight them? do you wanna escape,and find a new place to live in?It is a decision that will change all of our lives so i wont decide this alone!"

In that moment,where all of them saw a strong and kind leader who will handle this whole situation for them,all Lena saw was her sister, desperatly reaching for help,but playing the role of the strong leader as everyone expected from her.

And as Lena stood there,she felt the pain of her sister as if it was her own.Lexi was never able to be vulnerable or weak in anyways,she always had to stay calm,no one ever saw her cry. It is like all of them forgot she was human.

Not so Lena.She remembered the guilt she felt earlier that day about not showing love and thought she should try it at least now that the situation is getting worse each day.So when the speach Lexi gave was over she walked through the crowd to reach her.it was a bit difficult and Lexi already started to walk away but just a few footsteps next to Lexis tent she reached out and touched her shoulder.

She turned around and said with a cold ,apathic voice:"What do you want,Lena?" the way her own sister emphasized her name...she couldnt say it was not a bit hurtful,as if it was a punishment talking to her.

"Now or never!",Lena thought and pulled her arms around her sister.Lexi was suprised and stiffened in her arms.

Lena chose to tell her what she thought during her speech,just to let her know she understands:"Look Lexi,I know i was hard to you,ok.You try to be strong and self-confidental,for all of us,but I am not blind and I see what the pressure is doing to you.You are just human you also can be worried sometimes or sad or angry.I know we never had a typical sister-realationship,but i only wanted you to know I am there if you need me.

Lexi relaxed a little and leaned into the hug of her sister.In that moment she wasnt the strong leader of the whole society anymore,she was Lexi,just Lexi ,the little girl that only wanted to be loved during the hard times they gone through most of their life.

A single tear rolled down her cheek,it was a tear of pain and suffer and a tear of love and relief.

Lena wiped the tear away and tried to put a smile on her face.She pressed her little sister closer to her chest...she was only 18 and the weight of 50 lifes lays on her shoulder. Its not fair,but life isnt fair in general,she learned that.

She wanted to tell her it will be fine now, but their moment got interruped by a scream that was filled with anxiety.

"The reign is comming.They are here!"Then suddenly this scream was filled with pain and then faded away completely.

Lexi looked at Lena and said:" stay here!"here voice admitted no contradiction and she stormed outside,a spear in her hand.
