SOULMATE BASED ON THE BIBLE
I was busy typing on my laptop. Nawala na lang ang atensiyon ko sa screen nang may narinig akong malakas na tunog sa harapan.
It was Jess, my boy bestfriend.
Its already midnight, at nakahiga sa sofa ang boyfriend kong lasing. Jess and him went out for a party at kakahatid lang niya nito. I thought aalis na din agad ang kaibigan pero di ko alam kung bakit nanatili pa siya.
“Annie, after months of observing your sudden change in behaviors... ngayon lang ulit ako nakakuha ng courage para sabihin ito sayo. " He leaned on the able closer para mahagip ang mga mata ko and smiled, “You are indeed in love. "
"Huh? " napatanga ako sa kaniya.
Oh, yes. I am in love.
“I've known you for years. I've known how resilient and independent you are. And I know how you hate clinging but everytime ko kayo makita ni Chris na magkasama. I can't help but think. He really did made you soft. He really did got your heart." He chuckled.
I smiled at him, “I am blessed, Jess. I am blessed."
“Nakakainggit." He laughed, “But hey, don't take that differently. I don't like you in a romantic way and I don't imagine it. Ew!"
Natawa na lang din ako sa reaksiyon niya.
“Do you believe in soulmates?" Tanong niya sa kin.
Napahinto ako sa pagtatype. Bumuga ng hangin mula sa bibig saka sumandal sa back rest ng swivel chair. I pouted.
I don't believe in those things.
“When it comes to love, I don't believe in fate. But I do believe in choices." I said, saying those words made me hear my boyfriend's voice at the back of my head.
Inuulit ko lang naman ang sinabi ni Chris sa akin noon when I asked him if he believes in fate or destiny. I giggled silently nang napatantong he really did made a great impact on me.
“Who qouted that?" His eyes narrowed at me.
I shrugged while trying to hide a smile.
“Well, I've heard this on the internet. I forgot who that was but...do you have a bible?" He asked.
Tumango ako at itinuro ang maliit na altar. I don't have an altar before but Chris suggested that I should make one.
Kinuha ni Jess ang bible saka pinakli ang ilang page in front of me until he stopped on the chapter of Corinthians.
“Hmm...nandito lang to eh. I forgot the verse though." He sheepishly sneered, “It's First Corinthians Chapter 13...verse...3...ah-huh! Four to eight! Here is it. Babasahin ko lang for you."
I stopped from typing on my laptop and nakinig ng maigi sa kaniya.
"So.... 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says, Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong doings. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." He stopped reading and looked at me.
I looked at him and raised an eyebrow habang attentively na hinihintay ang sasabihin niya.
He smiled at me, “Kung sino man ang boyfriend o girlfriend mo ngayon, you'll be like..."
“Chris is patient...Chris is kind..." napaawang ang aking labi habang iniisip ang kasunod na mga kataga.
I bit my lower lip when Chris was actually like how love was described.
“Now, do you get it?" He smiled.
I nodded.
“Is he your soulmate then?"
I glanced at Chris.
Is he my soulmate?
I never believed in soulmate.
But whatever religion you are, I pray you'll find the partner who can be described like how love was described in 1st Corinthians.
