The following poem is inspired by a painting of the same name by Stephanie Law. You can see the painting on her website here: https://www.shadowscapes.com/image.php?lineid=0&bid=1115
Under the live oaks, she dresses her hair
With a lift of her arm, with the utmost care
For the revels tonight, she must prepare
To sing with grace, to dance with flair
Amidst spring acorns, she ponders awhile
Which song to sing, which would most beguile
Be it dance or music, she's most versatile
Yet from her audience, she craves but one smile
O Primadonna, why do you fret and sigh?
Pray, why do you feel those butterflies?
Your grace undisputed, yet you lower your eyes
Is it for him you penned a sweet lullaby?
Primadonna, tonight you will dance and sing
You will twirl and whirl, you will spread your wings
Round and round the enchanted faery ring
To your faery partner you will coo and cling
If he be The One, it matters not which song you sing
For whichever you choose, you will be Queen to his King.
