It took her a second for that to sink in. "...what?"

"You heard me loud and clear. You have to be the one to kill me. Then I can finally be at peace. Or at least somewhere else. Earth is the true hell. I don't care what the catholic folk say, if there is a fiery pit where demons roam, it's nothing compared to this."

There was only one question she could come up with after that. "Why me? You mentioned that we came together by fate... what does that mean?"

"The day you were born, you were assigned the role to be my murderer. You have nothing but my respect. My Lord decided to be kind to me and give me someone to put me out of my misery. You. If you don't do it, it won't work. I'll be reincarnated again. And there's a specific way you have to do it. The way he speaks to me isn't with words... it's with images, as I've mentioned before. I tend not to sleep much because of them, they come to me in dream-like sequences. A ritual will need to be performed. In the end, I will be dead. And you will take my place as the leader of this cursed cult. The only reason I've continued pretending to worship this thing is so he doesn't change his mind."

All this time she was alive... it was just to kill someone? If he knew things that just came to him in pictures, it made sense how he knew so much about her if she was assigned this part. It all connected, but it was so hard to believe.

"Why will I have to lead this place after this? After everything that's gone down, I'm not sure I want to stay here." she tried to snap at him but it just drove him further.

"The moment you stepped in here you were trapped. Whether I'm dead or alive has nothing to do with it. And someone needs to lead everyone, right? And since you have to kill me, it only seems reasonable that it's you."

The more he talked, the more she wanted to punch him. "So this is all just for your selfish wish to die?"

His eyes widened and he covered his mouth from laughing, knowing he was provoking her. "I wouldn't call it selfish at all. You see, if I get reincarnated, the curse will move with me. Therefore, all of you will be outside of the cursed grounds. You will all die."

She was struck. All of this just sounded like a suicidal maniac who wanted to off himself simply because he was tired. But it wasn't just that, he wanted to help everyone survive. That wasn't his main goal however, it was just a small part that worked in everyone else's favor.

"I'll pass my leadership down to you, because if that is not done, the curse will cease to exist, and you'll all die anyway, even if I'm not here. If I were reincarnated, the curse would move. But if I were to die, and give nobody else leadership, the curse would vanish all together, and everyone would be dead within a few hours. So you need to kill me. Then you will have control over this place, and the curse will remain within you, even though I'll be gone. Therefore, when you die, everyone else will be freed. They can roam as they please, and that's due to the fact that there is no longer a god within these grounds. After the ritual, you can choose to explain everything to the others or not, it's no matter. If you tell them though, most will panic and try to leave. So I hope you can be prepared for that."

"This sounds like a fuck ton of shit to think through! Have you even thought about my input in this?" she was almost shouting. He was getting so much amusement out of her frustration.

"I have lost my ability to understand human emotions properly. You understand that, right? I've lived far too long to care anymore."

"You pretentious prick!" she started to get up, but Charlotte immediately put a hand over her. Her expression was completely blank, it was impossible to tell what she was thinking. But it hit Jenny somehow, and she got back on her knees.
