“Now I've been riding across the seven seas
Looking for a girl from another fantasy
I keep a big ship they call me Captain Kid
I got the eye patch, Tri hat, Rollin' like a pirate!”
I sang along with the music that was being emitted from my phone. Claire had just texted me saying she was going to be over in a bit so I figured I would go check on Max. As I glided through the empty hallway, I began to notice a trail of mud that led down stairs and possibly to the kitchen. Max had probably tracked in mud from last night.
“Max, what are you doing?” Max had his face full of flour and chocolate was all over his clothes. I giggled at the innocent expression on his face. “What did you do to yourself?”
I got a wet wash cloth and started cleansing his pale face.
“I tried to cook again.” Max snatched the cloth forcefully from my grasp and started washing himself off.
“Wow.” I said, examining the mess he had made. “Shouldn’t you be with your action figures or something? I thought you were a man?”
“But Clarisse says likes men who can cook!” Max dusted off the white powder on her apron before hanging on a hook.
Max had a thing for Clarisse, Claire’s younger sister. It was pretty obvious, that Clarisse liked him back, but she enjoyed teasing him.
“What were you trying to make anyway?’ I noticed the burnt pan that sat on the stove next to the chunk of poorly kneaded dough. Sprinkles coated the entire counter and some had even gotten into the sink and stove.
“Cookies. Clarisse likes them.” I sighed and knelt down to retrieve store bought cookies.
“Try these.” I handed him the plastic container.
Max immediately took the cookies and ran out the door, letting Claire in in the process. She wore her favorite blue tank top and black skinny jeans.
“Is he still going after Clarisse?” Claire had her hand on the strap of her tote bag. I nodded slowly. “Well then, let’s get going.” I nodded again as we walked outside.
It was the beginning of summer, right after graduation, and we re planning on living it up until the very end.
Her old hand me down mustang was parked in my driveway. Her mom had inherited from her dad so it was just passed down continuously.
“So, I heard you talked with Josh last night. So how is he? Is he nice? Is he cute? Is he just like Rokkit?” Claire bombarded me with many questions about her online lover. Her brown eyes twinkled with curiosity.
“To put it this way, Josh is a little ball of energy that looks like an older version of my little brother.” Claire thought for a bit and even mumbled a bit.
“Oh! So he doesn’t look like Rokkit?” Disappointment crossed her face. Had she really taken a liking to Rokkit?
“Nope. He’s a Blondie.” I popped the ‘P’ in nope. As we pulled out the driveway, I noticed little Max and Clarisse sharing one of the cookies under the tree in Claire’s porch. “They are so adorable together. I can’t wait to see them when they are our age.” I said.
“Same here. At least then we’ll be sister’s-in-law then.”
After a fifteen minute drive from my house to the mall, we had planned out where we were going to go first.
“Alright, so it’s Abercrombie first, then Aeropostale, and then stop by Coach because I need a new purse.” Claire’s four inch heels clacked when they connected with the wooden floor inside the mall, making an echo sound go through the thin empty hallway.
“Yup, and then we stop by my stores.” I said. My orange converse didn’t make a sound on the wooden floor.
We marched over to Abercrombie and Fitch. I waited outside while Claire went in. It smelled too awful to go in and the music was way too loud for my liking. Claire walked out about a half hour later with two paper bags in her hands.
She motioned with her hand to follow her to Aeropostale. I grumbled as we walked to the girly store. We spent another two good hours in there. Claire spent an hour talking to the guy who worked there. She wasn’t easy, at all. But she was a bit of a player to say the least.
“Claire let’s go.” I grabbed Claire by the back of her blue shirt and dragged her out by force.
“Gosh, I was just talking to him.” Claire mumbled, adjusting her tank top.
“Yes, for an hour.” I shot back. “Let’s get going to Coach.” Claire mumbled something I couldn’t quite catch before continuing.
In Coach, Claire bought a wristlet and a matching purse.
“Alright, Addie, we can go to your stores now.” Claire disliked me and my childishness. I still loved the childhood games I grew up with like Pokemon and Digimon.
I dragged her to the GameStop that was on the second level of the mall. I pretty much just sat on the floor, reading the descriptions on all of the new games I was planning to buy.
“Can I help you?” An employee asked me. He looked about forty something. According to his nametag, he was named Chuck.
“No, sir.” I said bluntly before turning back to my pile of games.
After another fifteen minutes, I had decided to preorder both of the new pokemon games and some other games.
Claire was outside waiting for me like she always did. She wore a bored expression on her small face.
“We are going to hot topic next.” I said, grabbing her by the hand and dragging her a couple stores down.
We both skimmed what was on the racks inside. I ended up with a couple of band t-shirts and some rubber bracelets.
“Hey Addie, check this out.” Claire stood in front of a life size cutout of the band
“Rocket Ship to the Moon.” “Aren’t Rokkit and Josh in that band?”
I nodded, gawking at the cutouts of Rokkit, Josh, and Mason. If these were life-size, then he was really….really tall. At the bottom, it seems they were advertising their first album coming out in a month.
“That’s interesting.” I mumbled to myself. I would definitely be buying a copy of their album once it came out. “Let’s get going. It’s almost four-thirty.” Claire nodded and we went to pay for our stuff.
When Claire dropped me off, I immediately went upstairs to wait for Rokkit to come online.
