I dislike Monday mornings with a passion of a thousand suns. Why? Because I have to wake up early to catch a ride with Claire to go to work. I work at a small coffee shop that is usually empty, except during lunch. That is when it is filled with young couples and elderly people trying to read their newspaper and sip coffee at the same time.
“Adam will be here shortly. Sit tight.” I instruct Max. Adam is his babysitter. I had to hire him since Claire and I both leave in the morning to go to work and no one is there with him.
“I will. I’ll see you tonight!” Mix waves to me. Adam and Clarisse are coming up the driveway. She too stays over on some days when her parents aren’t home.
Claire honks the horn to her old car viciously while I make my way to the side of the car.
“I’m coming, I’m coming.” I mumble, sliding myself into the car’s leathery seats. It is averagely early today. We are up early since Claire works at another store on the other side of the city. “I wish we could work at the same place to avoid these hectic weekdays.”
“I do too.” Claire says. She is too focused on the road to say anymore at the moment.
We pass by numerous amounts of houses and shops. None of them are hiring though. As we pass by a specific restaurant, I slowly begin to remember all of he past events that had happened to me while I was there.
It was called ‘Charlie’s’ and served exotic foods. It had closed about three months ago due to a fire that came from the bakery next door.
I’d had my first kiss their, first date, and it was where I was proposed to. Proposed? You might ask yourself. Yes, my high school sweetheart proposed to me in that restaurant r right after graduation. I turned him down because I was only eighteen, I wasn’t ready to tie myself down just yet. Of course we broke up and went our separate ways afterward, but it is still a good memory. Although maybe not for him.
“Thank you for the lift, Claire.” I say. I get out of her car and wave as she drives off to her workplace. I look back at the small building that I work at. It is a round building that had many chairs and tables set outside for the customers to eat at. There were a couple tables inside too, but not as much.
I trudge my feet up the three stairs that led to the are the tables are at. From outside, I can see that my work friend, Starr is already there. Starr is still in high school, a senior to be exact. She and Hudson are my work friends actually.
Hudson is her current boyfriend and our boss. His grandfather owns the small café, but he sees potential in Hudson.
“How are you Addie?” Starr says cheerfully. Her brown hair is straight and her blue eyes were as vibrant as ever.
“What are you reading?” I ask her. She is leaning against the counter with a magazine in her hand. It was titled ‘Pop Lion.’ That’s a weird name.
“Some interviews.” She mumbles, turning a page. “These are all new bands and singers a new label picked up.” I immediately remember Rokkit.
“What are the names of the bands?” I ask, taking a seat on the counter. I was more than certain Rokkit’s band was in this.
“Last Remembrance, Loving Hazel, Unlimited, IM, and Rocket Ship to the Moon.” She says, grinning. “Loving Hazel is my favorite.”
“Really? I like Rocket Ship to the Moon. The lead signer is awesome.” I grin. “Can I see the interview?” I ask her. She hands me the teen magazine willingly.
“They are good looking I guess, especially the ‘mysterious’ Mason.” Starr chirps. “The ‘goofy’ Josh and ‘player’ Rokkit are cute too, but I like Mason more.”
