Insanity (Dream SMP) Book 2

Chapter 6

Dream felt someone shake his shoulder and he opened his eyes. He knew he was sweating and as he expected, Technoblade was watching him. Another nightmare... Dream thought.

"We have to keep moving, we're going to see if there's any armor we can salvage back home." Techno informed him. "Although I assume the Manbergians already got to that." He shrugged.

"Then we're going to get Antfrost, Bad, Skeppy, Phil, Sapnap, and George and figure out what to do next," Tommy said from beside his brother. 

Dream followed Techno and Tommy as they headed towards Dream's house. He spotted a note and sighed, knowing that Techno was right and the Manbergians had been here. Techno ripped it off the wall and froze as he read it, looking up at Dream stiffly.

"I'm sorry," he muttered, holding out the note.

"What does it say?" He asked worriedly, taking it. 'Your stuff has been taken and your dog is dead, should have done what we asked when we asked it, huh?' -Schlatt. Dream's mouth dropped open. "Blue?' He called, dropping the note and opening the door forcefully, gazing around. "Blue!" He cried. He spotted a limp white shape on his bed and hurried towards it, gasping as he saw the blue color.

"That heartless jerks!" Tommy snarled, staring down at Blue in anger. Dream turned his gaze towards Techno who was watching them sadly. He was unable to look at his dead dog anymore and he wanted Techno to know that. After a moment Techno came over and lifted Blue up, heading for the door without a word. How could they do that? Dream thought, horrified at what else they might do. 

"I put him under a bush, we can bury him some other time," Techno said, entering the house again. Dream saw that even his ender chest had been stolen and growled. They had really taken everything, his beds, his chests, even his furnaces. 

"Someone's going to die today." Dream snarled. 

"Many people are going to die today," Tommy added angrily.

"Calm down, we just-" Techno started. 

"You've given us nothing!" Tommy snarled, turning to his brother. "Nothing worth fighting for! We could die and no one would care right now, there's absolutely no reason to keep fighting! You took my home, you forced my friends to turn against me and now we have no way of even standing a chance against these guys!" Tommy cried, indicated to the empty room. 

"Tommy, I know how you feel but-" Techno was interrupted again. 

"Tell me just one thing, one thing that we should fight for," Tommy growled, holding up one finger. Techno stared at him. 

"We still have the book," Techno said. Tommy rolled his eyes, letting out a snort.

"Oh god, just burn the freaking book already!" He said, sounding angry and annoyed at the same time. "I might as well just join my friends." He added. 

"Don't do that," Techno said. 

"Oh yeah? Who would stop me? I don't see a leader around here!" Tommy sneered. "I see no leader, or at least any man brave enough to take the role." He added, an edge to his voice. 

"You need to calm down." Techno now sounded angry. Dream had said nothing and once more, just like that time with Wilbur and Techno at the table, he felt out of place watching the two brothers fight. "I hate when you do this, you get all mad at me and then we lose something irreplaceable." Techno yanked his bag off his back and pulled out an ender chest, taking the book and throwing it at Tommy. "You want to burn the book? Burn the freaking book! I don't care anymore." Techno's aim was true and the book hit Tommy square in the chest with such force that he stumbled backward, the breath driven from him.

"Guys-" Dream started, realizing this was getting out of hand. 

"Burn the book, Tommy." Techno hissed. "Burn it and everyone you care about will be gone forever. Burn it and I'll make sure they're gone because you won't be able to bring them back." Techno snarled. Dream had never seen him like this, Techno had never been so enraged before. "You've threatened and tried to kill me so many times, why shouldn't I try just this once?" Techno snarled, pulling out a netherite blade and staring at Tommy, rage in his eyes. Tommy froze, snapped from his angry trance by his brother's threat.

"Techno, Tommy-" Dream started again.

"Why shouldn't I try to kill you Tommy?" Techno hissed, his enchanted blade flickering with enchantments. Tommy said nothing for a moment, the book gripped firmly in his hands. Techno stepped forwarcds menacingly and Tommy flinched. If he tries to kill Tommy, I don't want to be caught in the middle of it. Dream realized. There's nothing I can do anymore. Dream stayed silent and watched as the two brother stared at each other, one blinded by rage and the other by fear. 

"Because you'd succeed." Tommy choked out after a moment, his voice cracking. Techno stopped walking forwards and froze, realization flashing in his eyes. "And you'd regret it." Techno opened his mouth to say something but no words came out. He sighed and put his blade back in his bag. Dream still had no idea what was appropriate to do at this time so he just stood still, watching dumbfoundedly as Tommy and Techno stared at each other.

"I'm sorry," Techno said after a moment. "I'm sorry, Tommy." He gritted his teeth and lowered his gaze. Tommy just nodded and glanced at the book and then the ender chest. Before anyone could say anything he put it in, locking it away from everyone else in the room. "We should go find Sapnap and the others." He shrugged after a moment.

"Yeah." Tommy said, sounding uninvolved. Techno stared at Tommy a moment longer, letting out a breath, before turning around towards the door. Dream picked up the ender chest and followed him, hearing Tommy's footsteps behind him. Dream waited a moment until Tommy had passed him and watched, a bit confused, as the two brothers headed forwards side by side. It's strange how one moment they're at eachother's throats and the next they're side by side. Dream thought, watching as Techno said something and Tommy replied as though his older brother hadn't been prepared to kill him a few moments ago. Dream smiled to himself. That's just how brother work I guess.
