Tommy was so angry. He had no idea why Dream suddenly didn't want Technoblade to come back. Didn't he realize how much they needed him? Techno had been the only thing holding their little rouge group together, and maybe that's why they were now falling apart.
"Don't worry about him," Antfrost said, patting Tommy on the back. "He'll come around in the end, he can't keep that book forever. The moment he pulls it out, we'll get it." Antfrost said definitely.
"What makes you think he'll take it out?" Tommy snorted. "He's just going to keep using it as a way to hold power, he'll never take it out." He sighed."Eventually," Antfrost shrugged. "Eventually he will."
"I sure hope so," Tommy said. "But even then, how will we get it from him? He's such a slippery little thing." He said, meeting Antfrost's green gaze.
"I have faith in you, Tommy, and I know your brothers do too." Antfrost smiled and got up. "For now we'll just wait for him to get back here with whatever answer he was seeking." Oh yeah. I wonder what that was about. Tommy wondered. What doesn't Dream know? And why is he bold enough to go ask Jschlatt for the answer? What makes him think he'll walk away unharmed? Tommy's mind whirled with questions and he closed his eyes for a moment, determined not to lose focus.
"It's getting late." He muttered, rolling onto his back and staring up at the ceiling.
"Goodnight Tommy," Antfrost said. What makes us think Schlatt will just leave us to sleep in peace? Tommy realized, stiffening. What's stopping him from coming in here and forcing us to give him the book? Tommy sat up and started staring at the door. "What's the matter?"
"Schlatt," Tommy muttered. Antfrost didn't sit up but he shifted slightly to see the door.
"What's he gonna do, kill us?" Antfrost said. "He can't, not while he still thinks you have the book. As far as he's concerned, if he kills you he loses the book for good." Antfrost says. "Tommy, you have a lot of power right now, use it wisely," Antfrost said. Tommy laid back down, still a little tense about Schlatt coming in, but Antfrost's words did make sense. Schlatt couldn't do anything to him. He'd already disposed of Tommy's most cherished things. Technoblade and Wilbur. I guess he has Tubbo... Tommy thought. Then he frowned as he remembered everything that had happened recently. If it comes down to the book or Tubbo, Tubbo's going to have to die.
"Ok, goodnight," Tommy said, pulling some blankets over himself and sighing. He jerked around as he heard the door fly open with a slam and someone stumble inside. At first, he froze, thinking it was Schlatt or one of his army, but when he looked up the figured white mask flashed in the moonlight. "Dream!" he basically fell out of his bed, forcing himself to his feet and making his way angrily towards his friend. "You're alive!" He had really not thought Dream would come back alive, and not a scratch on him.
"It's all me." Dream hissed, breathing heavily. Tommy stiffened as Dream fell to the side and he let out a yelp of surprise as Dream almost knocked him over. "It's my own brain, not Schlatt." He hissed again.
"There there... you'll be alright," Tommy said, patting Dream's head awkwardly. I'm no Technoblade but maybe he'll calm down eventually. He thought, glancing at Antfrost who had leaped to his feet as well and was staring at Dream. "Uh... it's not real?" He added, recalling something his brother had said to Dream one time.
"It's real though!" Dream jerked around to face him, still leaning heavily on him. Tommy didn't move, thinking if he did Dream would fall over and he wouldn't know what to do. "This is all coming from my brain, don't you see? I thought Schlatt was making me imagine killing you but no, it's me, I'm not insane, I'm pure evil!" Dream snarled.
"You're not evil," Tommy said, realizing what Dream was saying. He finally felt confident about what he was doing now and he grasped Dream's shoulders as his brother had done, staring at him sternly. "Dream, you're most certainly not evil. I've met a lot of people in my life and no one has been less evil than you. Accept maybe BadBoyHalo." He said with a shrug. "But that's beside the point. You're not evil, Dream, you just make bad choices sometimes. Everyone does that, I know I've made some bad choices, like letting my brothers die, and letting my father die and all that nonsense, but I've also made some good choices. Like sparing you." Dream stared at him blankly, not saying a word. "You've made some good choices too, like coming to me for help when you escaped prison, and getting Techno to join us, that was all you."
"I have no control anymore." Dream said quietly.
"Yes you do," Tommy said. "These dreams you have, they're just silly dreams. They mean nothing, I promise you. Listen, I'm no Technoblade and I don't know how to do what he does to calm you down, but I can assure you that I'll be here for you." Tommy said. He moved his hand slightly and slowly pulled Dream's hood down before lifting up his mask. Dream said nothing as Tommy took his mask off and set it on the table. "You're the only person who's been here. You were the only one who ever asked me for help, knowing that I might turn you away." Tommy stared at Dream for a moment. "You're not insane for trusting me, if anything, I'm insane for helping you."
"Does that mean you won't?" Dream said, his blue eyes flashing with hurt. "You're not going to help me anymore?"
"No, no that's not what I'm saying." Tommy said. "No, I'm trying to tell you that yes, you're a bad person sometimes but under all that you're so much more." Tommy glanced at Dream's mask on the table and picked it up again. "You're brave, smart, an insane fighter, and you've lasted so long with all these horrible visions, look," Tommy showed him the mask. "This is what's insane, you mask yourself with this, telling people you're crazy but you're not, you're just confused. You're not crazy, you're not evil, you're just confused at the moment, alright?"
"Then how do I make these stop?" Dream asked. He didn't need to explain further, Tommy knew he was talking about the dreams.
"Just stop thinking about them," Tommy shrugged. "They're not real, so stop acting like they'e real." Tommy took Dream's mask, letting go of Dream's shoulder with his other hand and he snapped it in half. Dream said nothing as he tossed the two pieces on the table. "Just be you from now on, alright?"
"Alright," Dream smiled slightly and Tommy realized after a moment that he'd done it. He'd managed to calm Dream down. His heart hurt as he thought of Technoblade but he pushed that hurt away and replaced it with confidence. He glanced at Antfrost who was smiling too and soon joined them in a ragged circle and Tommy realized something. Loyalty was much stronger than any diamond or netherite weapon.
This chapter's a bit long, sometimes I end up doing that. Welp. Have a nice day wherever you live :)
