Dream stared at the broken mask that Tommy had tossed onto the table. It broke. Just like the vision. Dream felt a heavy weight lift from his shoulders, one that he felt had been there since Schlatt had died and his visions had first started. Something told him that his visions would be gone soon. He just had to be patient.
"You just be yourself from now on, right?" Tommy said again. Antfrost had joined them in their little group and he was staring at Dream. Dream smiled at him slightly and he smiled back.
"We'll all just be ourselves from now on," Antfrost promised. " No more masks, no more lies.
"Ok," Dream said. Tommy patted him on the shoulder and turned to Antfrost who pulled his hood down.
"Can we bring Techno back now?" Tommy glanced at Dream, his blue gaze unsure. Oh... I forgot about that. Dream remembered that he had the book. He had the power and part of him itched to use it for his own good but he forced that selfish thought down.
"Yes." Dream breathed, a little shaky. It had been only a few hours and yet he wasn't sure he was ready to see Technoblade again. He turned to an ender chest that was in the corner of the room and opened it. He pulled out the book and looked up at Tommy, who was staring at him. It took him a moment to realize that the reason was that he was no longer wearing his mask and he supposed that Tommy was just trying to figure out what he looked like. It was dark so of course, he was still hidden in shadow.
"Let's go outside," Antfrost said. Dream gathered the other things he would need before following Antfrost and Tommy outside into the night. It was well past midnight and the moon was just beginning to dip below the mountains in the distance. Dream set up the little shrine thing that was needed to bring Techno back before he turned to Tommy and handed him the book.
"You should do it," He said. Tommy gave him an appreciative look and started staring at the book for a moment. He took a deep breath and headed for the shrine before stopping and just staring at it. "What are you waiting for?" Dream asked after a moment.
"I miss him," He murmured. "And I know once he's back here I won't miss him anymore," Tommy said quietly, still staring at the podium. Dream nodded in sympathy at Tommy who wasn't even looking at him. "I know once he's back here I'm not going to appreciate all he's done for us, so I just want to appreciate it now before it's too late." He said again, glancing at the book.
"Hands up." Dream stiffened as he heard a voice. And not a voice he wanted to hear. "We got 'em, boys." Dream turned around, a wave of fear washing over him, as he spotted Schlatt and his gang. Tubbo was at Schlatt's side and Sapnap, Dream was horrified to see, was at his other, glaring at Dream maliciously. He could see all his other friends were there too and so were the L'manburgians. Tommy turned and so did Antfrost, their eyes widening at the sight. Dream narrowed his eyes in anger as he spotted George aiming a crossbow at Tommy and to his satisfaction George faltered as he saw his face.
"Dream! You- you're face!" George gasped.
"What, am I uglier than you thought?" He snarled.
"No it's just-" Dream ignored him.
"Because at least I'm standing on the right side of the war." Dream snarled again. George looked hurt and after a moment he lowered his bow and his gaze.
"Is that disloyalty I see?" Schlatt turned to George who looked up quickly. "But your bow up, soldier." George glanced at Dream and Dream met him with a cold stare.
"I'm sorry- I mean, no, I'm not sorry," George said quickly, shaking his head. "But I can't-" Before he could finish Schlatt smacked him with the flat side of his sword and Dream gasped as George fell to the ground unconscious. He fought the urge to run forwards and help George up as a steady stream of blood began to drip from a wound on his head but he knew if he did someone would kill him.
"Anyone else?" Schlatt hissed, eyeing everyone who met him with scared gazes, even Sapnap looked a bit bewildered as he glanced at George. "Good, now Tommy, the book please." Dream watched as Schlatt made his way slowly towards Tommy who said nothing and didn't move. "No? Ok, then I'll take it." Schlatt hissed, pulling out a crossbow and aiming it at Tommy. Tommy opened his mouth to say something but before he could Dream pulled out a sword and lunged at Schlatt.
"Don't touch him!" He snarled, slashing at Schlatt who was too shocked to defend against Dream's flurry of blows. Eventually, Tubbo let out a cry and everyone charged. Chaos erupted around the little clearing Dream had been standing in only a few moments ago in peace. Schlatt let out a snarl of rage and pulled out his ax.
"Today this ends!" Schlatt shouted, swinging at Dream with his ax.
"Yes." Dream growled. "Yes it does." He glanced at Tommy who was struggling to fight off Skeppy and Sapnap while Antfrost seemed to be holding everyone else away. Dream knew that his friends wouldn't be able to win a fight against this many people. They needed Technoblade. Dream dodged a blow from Schlatt and fought his way through the crowd towards Tommy who was now pinned down by Sapnap. He cried out as Skeppy slashed his shoulder and Dream realized that none of them were wearing armor, but of course Schlatt's army was. "Tommy!" Dream yelled, kicking Sapnap in the face and glaring at him. "Stay down!" he snarled, gasping as Skeppy caught him on the leg with his sword.
"Dream!" Tommy cried. "Take the book!" Get Technoblade!" He yelled as Skeppy smacked Dream again. Dream yanked the book out of Tommy's grasp and turned. His eyes locked onto the little podium and he threw the book as Skeppy thrust him to the ground. There was a flash of lightning and suddenly there was a figure standing on the obsidian block, a mere silhouette against the sunrise. Dream couldn't help but start laughing with relief as the figure looked up, his blue eyes glistening in the sunlight.
"Whatup, nerds?"
