You scoff and walk away, ignoring the shouts and sounds coming from the other kits. You close your eyes, trying to filter out all the pointless background noise your loud clanmates are making. The feeling of the setting sun warms you and fills you with a new sense of purpose. You open your eyes again and try to concentrate on the scenery of the camp, trying to take the whole layout in.
Your paws dig into the warm, sandy dirt that makes up the camp as you sit down, thinking. The camp is arranged in a circle with one den for the leader, one for the medicine cat, one for the warriors, one for the queens and kits. There's also an empty den that you guess is for the clan's apprentices. Five dens, five kits in your nursery! What could it all mean, you wonder.
You are shook from your thoughts when you feel a paw on your shoulder. You twist up to see the kind gold eyes of a calico she-cat looking down at you. It takes you a second to remember who she is and you frown. Great, it's Cherrybloom, the medicine cat. "What?" you snap, not eager to have her drag you back to the medicine den for a pointless checkup.
"Well, hello to you too," says Cherrybloom sarcastically. "I'm guessing from that attitude you wouldn't be too interested in helping little old me?"
"That's right," you say, flicking an ear.
"What if I offered you a reward?" asks Cherrybloom. "Lionstride's just got a rare red mouse. It's meat is supposed to be twice as tasty as a regular one. It's yours if you can help me get what I need."
"What do I have to do?" you ask, trying not to sound interested.
"It's simple," said Cherrybloom. "Help me collect 24 violet flowers. I need them to make a poultice to help an elder who's having trouble sleeping."
1.Why not? This is an easy way to get a tasty mouse and even better, you won't have to talk with anyone. Go to page 24.
2.Pfft, this is a waste of time. If you're just going to be harassed by other cats, you've seen enough of camp. Go to page 25.
