You find yourself on a strange surface. It's cold under your paws, but when you look down you can sort of see a shimmering version of yourself, surrounded by stars. Your fur stands on end, and the doppleganger does too. You slash down with your claws only to come in contact with some sort of cold shell. You yowl, licking your paw to try to warm it up. Suddenly, it hits you. This must be what the elders call ice.

You don't have long to celebrate your discovery. From the point you struck, a crack starts to form. You try racing away, heart pounding, but the crack grows. A chasm starts to open up behind you as you rush over the endless ice. You slip on the smooth surface, sprawling out. You try to get to your feet, but it's too late. You feel yourself falling through the now gaping hole. Far above you, you see your reflection now standing where you used to be. The purple night sky and twinkling stars grow further and further away as the imposter smiles just a bit too widely at you, their teeth as long as badger claws.

As you fall, you catch glimpses of things real and imagined. A shadowy pine forest flashes by, with a thousand blood red eyes staring at your descent. Two golden lions ignore you, pouncing at each other as they tear their pelt to shreds. Brumestar's sad, old eyes shed a single tear, which withers a bush with bright red berries as soon as it touches it. A black tom with more scars than claws backs away in fright, as a cherry tree grows miraculously fast, its new limbs spearing his body. Ravenkit's cold high laugh rings out in your ears as you find yourself surrounded by...

Nothing.

You open and close your eyes, desperate for some simulation. Even the fall was worse than this. Now you just feel suspended in a great inky void, a never ending emptiness. Your eyes widen with recognition. You've been here before.

Ah, there you are, rings the familiar voice of whoever, no, whatever lives in this horrible place. "What do you want?" you mew, much more confinfidently than you feel.

You, rasps the voice, its words gripping your mind in a deadly panic.

Abruptly, your body is bathed in a bright, red light. You have to close your eyes, it's almost as unbearable as looking into the sun, but gradually your eyes acclimatize. As the light seems to dim, your whole body stiffens. You realized what the red light is. It's an enormous eye.

I can see you now.

You awake with a screech, alerting the entire nursery to your fright. Your paw pads grow wet as you slink to an out-of-the-way corner of the den. It's just a dream, you think. You've got nothing to be afraid of.
