#Jake

I ruffled my already messed up hair, not caring how it looked anymore. I shifted from one foot to the other, eager to get the game started. Adrenaline coursed through my veins and I enjoyed that invinvible feeling. I remembered Dylan's face in the crowd earlier. She was giving me two thumbs up. I smiled. I'll show her "Jake from the Soccer Field".

I looked at my team one more time. We shared a smile. The auction went so well, and well, things kind of just fixed themselves. Our eyes practically fell from their sockets as we saw the amount of money we collected from the auction when we were counting the cash and recording the expenses the other night. It was actually more than enough.

I eyed our opponents in the field. They were some pretty bulky guys, but not as much as our goalie, Guy. I wasn't nervous though. From experience, huge guys weren't very fast. The thing about them was that you'd be scared to steal balls from them cause when you barelled into them. It hurt a lot. For you, that is.

But I was pretty confident.

The whistle sounded and everyone and everything was moving all at once.

Soon, it was just me and the ball.

The grass crunching beneath my feet, the wind through my hair, the black and white ball rolling beneath my cleats. I stopped and kicked.

Everyone cheered. I just scored the first goal of the game. I laughed as I ran back down the field.

Did I mention I love soccer?

...

In my opinion, it was over too soon. Our opponents were actually pretty good, but our team was just better. I'm not being cocky. It's true, but I can be cocky about kicking the final goal. So yeah, we won.

I was actually really really happy and I guess it showed. We were tackling each other on the field and just plain out laughing. I didn't even care that it was pretty cold out and I was wearing shorts and still sweating. The whole stadium seemed to be laughing with us too. I couldn't hear much over the cheers.

My teammates were right. Soccer was a big deal in this town. To me, it looked like the whole school was there. And the entire town, too. The cheerleaders were showing off doing a little victory dance on the field. Who needed cheerleaders for soccer games anyway? Apparently, it was pretty important here. From the way everyone's acting, you'd think we won tIFA World Cup or something equally as grand, and not a high school football match.

Wow. I felt great!

We started to clear the field,  and people from the bleachers came over to greet us. The people actually swarmed us. There were slaps on the back, kisses on the cheeks, high fives, hugs, fist bumps, and all. There was even this little girl who asked for my autograph! I swear I was grinning like an idiot with all the congratulations and stuff. Coach and Kyle were looking at me proudly.

Out of nowhere, Dylan appeared in front of me. She was wearing a dark green scarf around her neck and her cheeks were pink from the cold. She was smiling at me, her hands in her pockets. When the guy almost choking me finally let go, I wrapped Dylan in a hug. I didn't care that I was sweaty and probably dirty. i just had to hug Dylan. Words couldn't explain how ecstatic I was feeling at that moment.

"Congratulations," she said, "I'm so proud of you."

She surprised me when she gave me a peck on the cheek and I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it.
