Maire waited till lunch break to do it, walking up the stairs to the rooftop. It was the same spot that Deku stood before he ended it all, and the spot she would do the same. She stepped over the edge and gazed out at the sky, undoing her hair to let it blow in the wind. It was a sunny day, the clouds slowly drifting across the sky. It was so peaceful, and nostalgic. Memories of Deku filled her mind, sweet memories of all the bright and beautiful moments they spent together. Maire's emotions came back full swing, tears filling her eyes and spilling over. She didn't want this, she didn't want to die. Deku wouldn't have wanted this, he would've wanted her to live a full and happy life. He would've grabbed her hand and hugged her tight, refusing to let go. Before Maire could think, she had taken several steps away from the edge. When she came back to reality, her thoughts quieted. Maire stood still for a few moments and then turned and walked down the steps to the lunch area. When she noticed Odori and Bakugou's worried faces, she walked over to them with her head down. "There you are! Where the heck have you been?!" Odori asked as she grabbed her friend and gave her the biggest hug. She released her and looked into her eyes. "You were gone so long, even Bakugou was worried!" "Like hell I was worried! I didn't care at all." He rolled his eyes. "I-I..." Maire stuttered, scared to tell her friends what almost happened. "You've been crying?" Odori asked simply with a frown. Maire's eyes were suddenly filled with sadness and she started to cry again. Her whole body began to shake and her knees threatened to give way. Odori grabbed Maire's hand and sat her down in a nearby chair. "Okay, take a minute, then you can tell me what happened." She spoke comfortingly, taking a seat in the chair in front of her. Maire nodded gently, taking a deep but shaky breath to calm her raging nerves. She then focused her attention on the present, calming herself down. Maire looked at Bakugou, and then at Odori. "I went up there again, but I almost did it this time. I almost joined Deku." Maire said, her voice quiet and broken. Bakugou and Odori's eyes widened immediately, Odori's hand moving to clasp her mouth. Maire looked down at her shoes as thoughts of regret flooded her brain. You shouldn't have said anything, now you're being a burden to all of them! Just go die already. Just as Maire started to get up to walk away, Odori grabbed her arm and pulled her into a tight hug, laying Maire's head on her collarbone. Maire slowly wrapped her arms around Odori, being gentle and cautious with her movements. After a few minutes, Maire fell asleep in Odori's hold. She hadn't slept for days, plus all of the sudden emotional output was exhausting. Together, Bakugou and Odori brought Maire to her house to let her rest. They vowed from that day forward, they would protect Maire and always be there to support her. Nothing and no one could ever change that.
