"Do you remember all the good times?" Midoriya asked out of nowhere, his voice sounding soft and happy. "Of course I do." Maire replied with a small smile. She noticed his smile returning, the smile that made her heart flutter every time. Deku looked up from his shoes and into Maire's eyes again, searching them for some remnant of her past self. The moment was sweet, but it had to be interrupted by a question that Maire had been wanting to ask him for a long time. "Why did you jump?" she asked, her voice stern, but curious. Through the rear view mirror, she could see Deku's eyes widen in surprise, but quickly changed to heartbreak. After about a minute, Maire heard his sniffles and shaky breathing. "Deku?" She asked worriedly, turning around to look at him. "K-Kacchan told me t-to." Midoriya replied, tears running his face. "What?!" Maire replied, shocked. Bakugou wouldn't do that. She thought. "I was just a quirkless wanna be hero. I thought no one would care if I left." Midoriya explained in a depressed tone. Maire wanted so badly to comfort him, to comb her fingers through his hair and listen as he vented his darkest thoughts and emotions. She gave into her wishes and offered her hand to him. "Hey, I understand. I know how that feels. I almost followed your example, but my love for my friends and for you stopped me. Odori and Bakugou helped me recover from my depression, and I couldn't have done it without them. So, if you want to talk, I'm here." Maire said with a sweet smile. This made Midoriya look up in surprise. She cared about me? B-But, Shigaraki said that nobody would care... He thought to himself, his gaze drifting from the rear view mirror to Maire's hand. He reached for it and let his fingers brush against her palm, wanting so badly to hold it again, but then Shigaraki's words rang through his head. You can't fall in love with heroes. That's not how it was meant to be. Midoriya retracted his hand and placed it on his lap, looking back at his shoes. Maire looked at Midoriya through the rear view mirror and smiled softly. She retracted her hand and put it back on the wheel. Meanwhile, her brain was full of questions and theories racing everywhere. Some of these questions were How was Deku alive? and Why is he here? and What does he want?
