Lumiose City, Ash's POV.After about 10 minutes of painstakingly making our way to Professor Sycamore's lab dodging fangirls and news reporters scouring the streets for me, we eventually arrived to the lab and hastily made our way into the large building and out of the prying eyes of the public. The thought of getting caught by anyone out there made me shudder.
"Hey Professor Sycamore! You in here?" I shouted to which there was a small thud of something being placed on a wooden surface followed by frantic footsteps in our direction. Professor Sycamore emerged from a room ahead of us with his usual smile on his face, although I can see a few beads of sweat trickling down his face.
"Ah, hello Champion Ash! Professor Oak told me that you would be arriving today." He greeted, seemingly ignoring the 2 siblings behind me, but that was short lived.
"I see that you have met the city's Gym Leader. How are you two both?" He added, directing his attention to them.
"I'm good Professor." Clemont replied while Bonnie hummed in agreement."Well he found me after I was thrown out of the tower." I groaned, still slightly bitter over my treatment but it would eventually fade. The two siblings sweat dropped at my remark.
"I see, I'm not surprised as you only got here and obviously don't have 4 gym badges." He said, which reminded me.
"Hey, so why is there a 4 badge rule? I have been to countless gyms and this was never a requirement in any of them, plus they all accepted challengers pretty much immediately." I asked, curious as to why this gym was unique. Bonnie spoke up to answer my confusion."Well, big brother needed time to work on his inventions and couldn't keep on stalling due to inexperienced trainers constantly showing up everyday only to be easily beaten. So he had to put up a rule to ensure only strong trainers challenged him." She explained.
"Well, uh. Fair enough. But that doesn't explain the trapdoor." I countered."Blame clembot, he put it in while we were gone." She said. Well it's not like you can't seal it or something?
"Anyway, what am I here for?" I questioned, changing the subject. There was no reason to carry on the useless arguement."Well, have you ever heard about mega evolution?" I'm not sure what kind of answer he was hoping for seeing that I have never been to this region, but I shook that thought.
"No. What's that?" I questioned, it sounds intriguing, and he explained:
"It's a temporary evolution for a certain amount of fully evolved Pokemon occurring when the the Pokemon has a mega stone specific to their species and is activated by the trainers keystone. It boosts their strength drastically and can sometimes change their typing. Some even have different mega stones for the same species like Charizard for example, which has two forms of mega evolution depending on the type of mega stone used."
I was in awe at what I just learned, lighting up like a Christmas tree. Imagining Charizard getting even stronger than he already was sparked my intrigue of battling a mega evolved Pokemon. It also didn't go unnoticed by the pokeball on my belt, which gave a wiggle and leaked a noticeable amount of heat into the room. Smiling at the thought of finding mega stones for my team, I reached towards it and plucked it off the magnetic discs holding it in place.
"Hear that, buddy? I hope we can get some mega stones for you and the others." I asked the small ball in my hands, which wiggled in response.
"Well there is no need for that, there is a reason why you're here after all." The Professor stated, which took me aback. I didn't know why I was told to go here but now I was suspecting it involved mega evolution.
"And that would be?" I inquired while eyeing the Professor in front of me.
