Dream shivered, he had wandered in the direction of Phil's cabin thinking that It wasn't burnt to the ground, and to his disappointment, it was. He sighed as he spotted a sword stuck into the ground where Phil must have died the first time and yanked it out, thankful for at least a little protection against the monsters he knew would appear later.
"You know what?" he growled to himself. "I'm going to Techno's cabin." He grinned as he realized that there was a house full of food and armor that was his for the taking. Techno had never returned to his cabin after the battle, well, the two battles, and Dream knew there would be stuff there for him. He cast a long look at Phil's little cottage and sighed, heading towards the arctic biome. He could just make it out as he was standing on a hill and he started down the mountain hopefully.
At least I get to be exiled to a place I know. Dream remembered Tommy's exile and found himself grinning smugly. Ha. I got a better axile than you. He stopped smiling as he realized that he was exiled. Idiot, Dream. This is not a game, you have no one to help you and they all think you tried to kill Technoblade. He thought glumly, pushing past an oak tree. The sun was setting and after a moment Dream decided to climb a tree and maybe get some rest up there where no mobs could hurt him.
"Where did Squeesh and her friends even come from?" he wondered aloud, knowing no one could hear his words. He shrugged and leaned against the trunk of the tree so that he was sitting up. It wasn't all that bad. Don't get too happy, you're going back eventually. Dream glanced at his shiny compass and promised himself that he'd come back and prove he was innocent. Unless I did it in my sleep in which case I'm not innocent. He thought. Nah, my dreams are gone, it couldn't have been me.
Just to be certain, he examined his sweatshirt to see if there were any new tears and was pleased to find that there weren't. I'm innocent, and so long as I know that everything will be fine. He thought, smiling and closing his eyes. Sleep came easily and with it, no nightmares.
Dream opened his eyes and yawned, stretching, and turned to slide out of his bed. He yelped as he realized the fall was a lot longer than he'd expected and landed with a thud in a patch of grass. He let out a groan of pain and then started laughing, remembering he had been sleeping in a tree. Tommy would have laughed if he'd seen that. He thought, getting to his feet with a chuckle. His laugh died away as he realized Tommy wasn't here and it was likely he wouldn't see his friend for a while.
"Stupid," He hissed, smacking his head with his hand. "You're in exile, remember?" He snorted, picking his sword up off the ground and stretching again. He sighed and started towards the pines, which he could see in the distance.
He found himself stopping where the snow met the grass. He clutched his sword tightly and took a deep breath. He was about to return to a load of memories and he wasn't entirely sure he was ready for them. You can do this Dream, it's not like all the memories are bad ones. He thought, recalling that night on the hill when he thought Technoblade was going to kill him. He should have, I did so many awful things and he watched me almost kill his brother, I deserved to die then and there. He thought
"Why didn't he kill me?" Dream muttered, narrowing his eyes. Surely it was just pitty, Techno didn't care about him, he cared about his kin and Dream was not his kin. Maybe it was because he had known how good of a fighter Dream was and had been keeping him alive only for the battle. Dream had no idea, if Techno really did care about him surely he would have come after him in his exile. Dream found himself glancing over his shoulder and he felt a pang of disappointment as Technoblade wasn't there. Obviously. Idiot, Dream, he doesn't care. He's a king now, he had better things to do than worry about you.
Dream took a step into the snow and was once again reminded of a memory.
"Dream?" He heard another voice and at once he buried his head in his knees. He dared to look up and at once he saw Technoblade, once again he was marching towards him with a sword. He blinked, trying to clear the vision but it wouldn't leave and Techno kept getting closer and closer until he was crouching in front of Dream.
"Y-you're just a vision, you can't hurt me." Dream told himself, rocking back and forth.
"No, I'm real," Techno said.
"No you're not!" Dream growled. Techno said nothing and shook his head slowly.
"I like the mask." He snorted, grasping Dream's shoulders and yanking him to his feet. "It's a lot more... natural, than the other one." Dream gasped as he realized that Techno was real and he jerked backward, fear overcoming him once more. He's going to kill me now, isn't he? He thought, pressing himself against a tree. He was breathing heavily now as he stared at Techno. "Come on, let's not have you freeze to death." He grabbed Dream's wrist gently and started through the snow but Dream pulled his hand away quickly.
"Don't touch me!" He cried, stumbling backward and falling into the snow. Techno ignored his warning and hoisted him back to his feet, half dragging, half leading him through the snow. Dream fought as hard as he could but he couldn't free himself from Techno's grasp no matter how hard he tried. "Please, just let me die in peace." He begged.
"I'm not letting you die," Techno said.
"Then why did you try to kill me?" Dream stuttered. Techno said nothing for a moment, dragging him through the snow.
"If I had to choose between you and Tommy, I would kill you myself," Techno said. "And if I end up having to do that, you know I will."
And Dream was sure that if Techno did end up having to choose between him and his brother, he would gladly have killed Dream. He liked Techno. He was a good friend, even if Dream wasn't entirely sure if he cared about him and he was certain that neither of them trusted each other. Techno had proven that by sending Dream into exile thinking he had tried to murder him.
Dream shrugged. He wouldn't have come after me if he didn't care. He supposed. Even if Tommy's whiney butt was the reason he did in the first place, Techno's a stubborn man and he certainly won't be pushed around by his little brother, he must have cared a little... Dream pushed the thought away, not wanting to disappoint himself when it came down to it.
After a lot of walking through the snow, Dream spotted something a few paces ahead of him. It had been hard to see through the snow and he almost tripped on it when he was walking. He yelped as he stumbled, squinting at the thing that had almost made him fall, before he realized what it was.
"Wilbur's shrine." He said, shuddering. This was the shrine he had used to bring Wilbur back from the dead. I guess I never took the stuff back. Sure enough, the books, although torn and weathered, had the words 'Wilbur Soot' written on them. He sniffed and turned, now knowing what direction the cabin was in. He shivered as he walked towards it, nearing the door. The doorknob was frozen as it was unused for at least a few weeks now and it took a little effort to open it, effort Dream didn't know if he could spare.
"Have a seat." Dream stiffened as he heard a voice and he turned towards the table where he saw someone sitting, sharpening their ax.
"Squeesh?" He muttered, confused and a little scared.
"Yep," Squeesh said, looking up at him. Dream debated whether or not to sit down and in the end, he just closed the door and stood still, unsure if sitting was the best idea. He gripped his sword and stared at Squeesh. "This wasn't necessarily part of the plan but it will have to do." She shrugged.
"What plan?" Dream said suspiciously.
"Lucky for me I tripped just right," Squeesh chuckled, standing up. "You want to see something very interesting?"
"Not really..." Dream muttered, taking a step backward. Squeesh turned her head and pointed to the rim of her hood where Dream saw a part of her rainbow sweatshirt was torn. There was one color missing on the rainbow outlining of her sweatshirt. Green.
Dun dun DUUUUN. Poor Tommy... :(
