After the shows, Phil invited me over for dinner. Dan had already warned me about this. Phil apparently wanted to try and cook and Dan just wanted to me to make sure he didn’t burn the house down. The pride on Phil’s face as he announced he was cooking us dinner was just too cute and I didn’t have the heart to stop him. Besides, it’d be a nice excuse to hang out with Phil without Dan around since he was out with Sam.
“Do you need help?” I asked with a laugh as I watched him attempt to sear chicken while getting rice started. “You’re making a mess.”
“Sh, I’m cooking for you. It’s not the same if you help.” Phil huffed, cursing as he knocked over the cup of rice.
“Philip Lester, do you kiss your mother with that mouth?” I teased “Go grab a broom, I’ll watch the chicken.” I looked down at the pan and shook my head, turning the heat down and adding some spices I managed to find. “Honey, let me help you cook.”
“Fine.” Phil said, sweeping up all the rice. “Dan is going to murder me for this. He doesn’t let me in the kitchen.”
“Except for baking videos?” I poured a new thing of rice for him. “Don’t spill this one.”
“Well, I’m not alone for the baking videos. He’s supervising.” Phil shrugged.
I laughed “Dan supervising? That’s the blind leading the blind.”
“No, Dan’s actually a really good cook.” Phil said “You saw him in our video. He’s a big geek for cooking stuff. He got so excited about your kitchen aid. It was adorable.”
“He got batter on our ceiling, Phil.” I reminded him.
“So maybe he’s accident prone.” Phil stood behind me, looking down at the chicken. “That already looks a lot better than what I was doing.”
“There’s a reason I’m the cook out of the group, and it’s not just because I’m the one with a normal schedule.” I laughed, taking the chicken out of the pan. “Try this.” I put a bit of chicken in his mouth, smiling as he gave a little moan. “It’s done, where do you keep your plates?” Phil stepped around me, reaching up over my head to take down the plates.
“Wanna watch a movie?” Phil asked after dinner. Before I could even answer he was already in the living room messing with a DVD player. “Which one do you want? We have everything.”
“No you don’t. You have everything British.” I contradicted him.
“We have some American movies…I think.” Phil pursed his lips and glanced at their collection. “Maybe not. What do you want to watch?”
“Uh, Phil, I honestly don’t care.”
“What’s your favorite movie?” Phil asked.
“The Ballet Shoes or Red Dawn. But you won’t have either because Ballet Shoes is an independent film and Red Dawn is very American.” I said “So why not choose your favorite movie instead?”
I sat down on his couch, laughing as he tackled me after he put the movie in. “You are like a giant puppy.” I told him, squealing as he licked my cheek. “Ew! Phil!” I wiped at my face aggressively.
Phil laughed and rolled off of me, hitting play on the remote. “Don’t think I’m a stalker, but I actually do have The Ballet Shoes.” I twisted on the couch so I could look at him. “Why?” I asked. “Because I may or may not have seen your favorites video and I may or may not have bought your favorite movie.” Phil said, his cheeks turning bright red. “Please don’t think I’m a creep.”
“No, I think it’s really cute.” I assured him, kissing his lips gently. “It might be the sweetest thing a guy’s ever done for me.” He grinned and kissed me, pulling me close to him. Even though it truly was a sweet gesture, I was exhausted from the day’s events and I soon found myself drifting to sleep in Phil’s arms.
“Why are you laying down in the living room with a blank screen?” Dan asked quietly as he came home.
“Sh, she’s sleeping.” Phil said.
“And how long has she been sleeping?” Dan asked with an amused laugh.
“A couple hours.” Phil continued playing with my hair. “She looks so cute; I didn’t want to move her.”
“Phil, it’s late, wake her up and take her home.” Dan leaned over us and I felt his hand on my shoulder.
“No, I’ll just take her to my room. She doesn’t have work tomorrow anyways.” Phil carefully lifted me up bridal style.
“Her friends are going to be worried.” Dan pointed out. “Did you even ask if she wants to stay? You can’t hold the girl hostage.”
“Nikki, can you hear me?” Phil asked. I blinked my eyes open slightly. “Do you want me to take you home or do you want to crash here?” I yawned and snuggled into his shoulder. “I’ll take that as a yes.” Phil smiled and kissed my nose.
When I first woke up I was very confused about why I was curled into another human and not in my room. Then, as the sleep left my brain, I understood what was happening. “Phil.” I whispered, trying to untangle myself from his arms. “Let go.”
“No.” Phil moaned, pulling me closer and snuggling his head into my neck. “Go back to sleep.” He sighed in my ear.
“Philip.” I complained, giggling as he blew a raspberry against my skin. “Let me up.” He reluctantly released me and I stepped into his bathroom. I did my business and looked in the mirror, wiping at my smudged eyeliner so it wasn’t as much of a mess. “I should be going.” I told him as I came back out. “My friends are probably concerned.”
“I texted them that you were spending the night.” Phil informed me. “So don’t worry about them.”
“That was sweet of you.” I smiled “I’m sorry I fell asleep during the movie.”
“Don’t be, it was kind of cute.” Phil grinned, sitting up slowly. “Though I don’t know whether to be concerned or not that I’m so boring you fell asleep.”
“It’s not that.” I assured him. “I haven’t been sleeping well. Our apartment makes weird noises.”
Phil nodded “Well, then I’m glad you got sleep somehow. You know you don’t have to go. It’s okay if you stay around.”
“I’ve gotta get back to my apartment and do my schoolwork. I’ve been taking online classes.” I told him. “Otherwise I’d love nothing more than to stay with you all day.” I bent over him, pressing a sweet kiss to his lips. “Besides, you look way too comfortable laying there for me to disturb you anymore than I have.”
“I wouldn’t mind.” Phil wrapped his arms around my neck, deepening the kiss. After a moment I pulled away, ignoring my burning cheeks. “I’ll call you then?” Phil said, his cheeks matching mine.
I nodded, making my way out into the hallway. “Morning, Dan.” I said, laughing as he covered his bare chest with a pillow from the couch. “Forgot I was here?” I teased.
“Yes.” Dan paused his video game. “Are you leaving already?”
“Yeah. I’ll see you around though, I’m sure.” I pulled my shoes on.
“Wait, Nikki, what are you doing this weekend?” Dan asked, getting up and joining me by the front door. “Because I was thinking we should do another collab. Sam was up for it, but she said to check with you…”
“Sounds great. What are we doing?” I frowned.
“A surprise.” Dan grinned.
“So you have no clue then?” I laughed as he nodded in agreement. “I’ll see if we can try and come up with some ideas. I’ll see you on Saturday then?”
Dan opened the door for me “Saturday.” He agreed, giving me a friendly smile as I left.
