Three days later I was in my bedroom working on a project for BBC when I heard something thud against my wall. Sam’s room was the one next to mine and I knew she was home for work, but usually that didn’t lead to loud thumping, just blaring music. “Sam are you alright?” I called out.
“UGH!”
“I’ll take that as a no.” I groaned, getting up and invading her room only to find it an utter disaster. Typically Sam’s room is as neat as an operating room. Everything has a place and if a single sheet of paper falls off her desk she goes into a frenzy of cleaning up. Now however there were clothes everywhere. Scrubs on her bed, shoes against the walls, blouses thrown against her wardrobe doors. “What the hell are you doing?”
“I own no attractive clothing.” Sam growled, picking up a discarded pair of pants before angrily tossing them at her desk. “Nothing. It’s all boring and simple and why don’t I have better clothing, Nikki?!”
“I don’t know? Because you moan and complain whenever I drag you shopping.” I said, picking up some of her clothes from the ground. “Why the sudden interest in clothing?”
“Because Dan asked me out to dinner and I was stupid enough to say yes.” Sam sunk down to her floor, head resting against a pile of sweatshirts. “He’s so out of my league. I’m so stupid. This is probably a joke or a prank and he’s not going to show up.”
“Sam, Dan is not that cruel. If he asked you out then it’s because he likes you.” I carefully made my way over to her and dragged her back to her feet. “You go get in the shower then dry your hair, I’ll find you an outfit, okay?”
“What? No, I’m not letting you play Barbie with me.” Sam huffed. “I can do this on my own.”
We both looked around the new found disaster zone. “Are you sure?”
“I’ll be in the shower.” Sam sighed, opening her bathroom door and disappearing behind it.
I slowly began picking up her room, sorting out the items by articles of clothing. I carefully chose her favorite pair of skinny jeans out of the bunch along with a purple lacey tank top and placed them on her desk out of the mess. I scoured under her bed to find her other black leather boot and put those next to the outfit.
“If you need help with hair and makeup, I suggest finding me rather than letting your room explode again.” I called to her through the bathroom door before I walked out into the living room. My phone vibrated against my thigh. I quickly answered seeing it was Phil “Your mate has my friend all panicked over this date.” I informed him.
“I know.” Phil laughed “I was just calling to ask if you’d heard the news. Also, could you please reassure Dan that Sam didn’t just yes to be nice?”
“Oh god. Does he really think that? She thinks he asked her as a prank.” I groaned. “Tell Dan’s he’s being an idiot and that he better remember to tell her she looks nice.”
“Dan you’re an idiot and don’t forget to call Sam pretty.” Phil called, but I couldn’t hear Dan’s response. “He says we’re annoying and should stop gossiping like old ladies.”
“He should probably focus on getting ready for his date and not on us.” I chuckled “Where is he taking her?”
“A steakhouse of some sorts. I don’t know. It sounded perfectly normal and cliché.” Phil said
“Phil we went to a coffee house for-“
“No, that wasn’t our first date.” Phil interrupted. “We have not yet had our first date. The coffee thing was a discussion.”
