"Hey, guys and gals, this is Brianna and you're listening to Hot Mess on BBC Radio 1" Brianna said into the microphone. "I have my co-host here with me today. Say hi!"
"Hi, I'm Nikki, and it's temporary co-host. I've been told it's my job now to keep reminding you I am temporary." I laughed as Brianna rolled her eyes.
"If you want to change Nikki from temporary to permanent make sure you tweet BBCRadio1 using the UnionNick hashtag. She might be American, but Nikki's pretty awesome and we want to keep her around." Brianna said. "As usual we'll be taking phone calls and tweets. Use #HotMessQuestions on twitter and Nikki will be following the twitter-verse to see what people want to know."
I held up my phone to show that I was indeed scrolling through the hashtag at the moment. "So, Brianna, what all are we going to discuss today?"
"Well, I did have it planned that we were going to talk about J.K. Rowling announcing there's more to the Harry Potter story, but then you and Phil decided to become the scandal of the internet, so let's discuss that instead." Brianna looked at me. "Philly is official, yes?"
"Philly is official." I agreed, my cheeks burning red. It didn't help that I knew Phil was currently watching through the glass separating out the studio.
Brianna clapped her hands "And how have the fans been reacting?"
"Fairly well. The number of death threats is minimal." I said honestly. "Just you know, one or two per day."
Brianna laughed, but the look on my face made her stop. "You're not joking? People are sending you death threats?"
I shrugged "Not a lot of people think Phil should be dating me."
"Well...how about family? Are they supportive?" Brianna asked.
"Phil's family is great. We haven't met in person yet, but I've talked to them on Skype and they're really sweet. They like to tease me about my American accent. I sound funny apparently."
"And your family?" Brianna asked. "Do they approve of Phil?"
I gave a little shake of my head. "But they don't really approve of anyone."
"Well, this has become depressing quickly. So we're going to listen to a song instead. This is Happy, playing to you on BBCRadio1 Hotmess." She hit a button to play the song and turned off our radio. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize..." She apologized. "I should've asked you first before changing topics."
"It's fine." I muttered, turning away from the camera as I felt tears sting my eyes. "Some of the hardcore phangirls are on the hotmess tag, I don't know if I can pull out any actual questions..." I scrolled through the feed, getting nothing but a lot of variations of 'Nikki sucks' that weren't quite so polite.
Brianna rubbed my back awkwardly. "They're not all like that. There's a lot of people who love you. Think of your girlies."
"My what?" I asked in confusion.
"Girlies, that's what fans of 4Girls1Camera call themselves." Brianna explained "Seriously, you run the channel how didn't you know that?"
I blinked, not having an answer. "Some of them were mean to Phil. They really want me to be with Lauren now that Jess isn't in the photo. They don't wanna listen to the fact we're just friends."
"You two are basically the American Dan and Phil. The internet is weird and thinks they have a say in other people's lives. But you and Phil are happy together and that's all that matters." Brianna said. "So don't stress about the fans. As for your family...I'm really sorry. If you don't mind me asking, why don't they approve?"
