"Who is it?" Ro asked her group, craning her neck to get a better view of the Imparter. "And what is that?"
"'That' is a piece of paper with facet angles needed to make temporary leaping crystals!" Dex exclaimed.
"And it's Linh." Tam inform her in a much calmer tone.
"Hi Ro!" Linh said, waving at her through the screen.
"Um hi," Ro responded. "What's going on?"
"Sophie called to tell you guys to meet her back at Havenfield because she found something," Wylie told them with a grin, moving into the view of the Imparter. Everyone gasped.
"And that's not all," Marella added. "We found something too!"
"Is it marked with a gulon sign like this one?" Maruca asked, grabbing Dex's Imparter and tilting it so that they could see Keefe's new symbol.
"Yeah," Linh replied, blowing a strand of hair out of her face. "Apparently that's an official symbol now."
"I gotta admit, Keefe's a pretty good artist," Tam noted, angling his head at the rather abstract symbol. "Not too complex, but enough details to know what it is." Everyone stared at him
Dex raised his eyebrows and said, "Okay, one, since when are you an art critic-" "I have a number of surprising talents." Tam interrupted. "And two, since when do you compliment Keefe? I think you just proved absence makes the heart grow fonder."
Tam turned his face away, mumbling, "Something like that," and when he thought no one could hear him, he whispered, "Or guilt."
"Anyway," Linh said, not so subtly changing the subject. "What did you say about facet angles Dex?"
"We found a piece of paper in a fake knot in front of the widow of the guy who Keefe delivered the letter from his mom to." Maruca explained.
"Hold on, hold on," Marella said, holding out her hands. "Not that you aren't explaining it great- because you totally are- but Bo keeps trying to whisper stuff to say to Ro and since Ro can quite obviously hear him, she is making a rather annoying tapping sound with her fingernails and it's a just a little distracting."
Ro groaned. "Please tell him to go away for me!"
"Go away Bo." Linh told him without a hint of niceness in her voice.
Tam gave Ro A Look. "Fine." she grumbled, as she went to lean against another tree
After about 10 minutes Ro started whistling. She tapped her painted fingernails against her tree.
"You sparkly elves done yet?" she asked them.
Tam whirled around to face her. "First of all, look at me, then look at the way I'm dressed. I AM NOT SPARKLY, and second of all, we're almost done."
"Correction," Dex said, putting away his Imparter and turning around. "We are done."
"Finally!" Ro cried. "Can I see whatever it was you found again?"
"Sure," Maruca replied, handing her the note. "Just don't rip it or anything."
"Yeah, yeah," Ro said, turning the note this way and that. "Dang Hunkyhair, for someone who doesn't want to be found, you sure have a talent for putting up signs that say HUNKYHAIR HIDING SPOT HERE!!! in neon lights." Dex pulled out a clear leaping crystal and adjusted the facet to the one that Ro guessed went to Havenfield.
"Ready to go?" he asked. Everyone nodded. "All right then, let's go get our prime prankster back."
