Point of View: Kaede Akamatsu

Have you ever felt a day go by
Where your heart and head feels heavy
And you truly don't know why?

I'm Kaede Akamatsu. The ultimate Pianist

•——•

My day started off like normal, waking up, getting changed, brushing my hair and packing my bag for school: my headphones in playing Der Flohwalzer. (I am so sorry)

Humming to myself, smiling at the flow of the music, I was practically flying. Bouncing up and down, I entered the school, not paying attention, before hitting into someone's hand. Opening my eyes to actually pay attention, I saw Kiyotaka Ishimaru, his hand up and saying something: tilting my head. He pointed to my ears before I realised I was still listening to music before pulling out my headphones.
"Good morning Taka-"
"Akamatsu, please call me Ishimaru! I'd appreciate the formality!"
"Ah alright! Morning Ishimaru!" I smiled, fixing my hair slightly "what is it you need?"
"Miss Akamatsu, you broke the handle on the door." He pointed to the front door. Covering my mouth with my hands, I looked at the handle
"I'm so sorry Ishimaru! Here let me fix it!" I anxiously smiled, trying to help out the situation
"No no Akamatsu, let me do it! You'll make it break more." Kiyotaka sat next to me, trying to fix it himself, turning the knob and screws, fiddling and tinkering to fix it
"Ishimaru, you're making it worse!" I nearly yelled, pouting, trying to snatch the doorknob off him
"Akamatsu!" He yelled before we both broke the door, having a deadpan face as we noticed this. We stared at the door we took off the hinges, then back at each other, before we both ran to the principals office, trying to tell him about what happened.

When we got to the office, Mr Kirigiri began lecturing us, wanting to know who truly broke the door and why would they do that, and how stupid we could be. Turning to my side, I saw Ishimaru shaking furiously. Before he opened his mouth, I yelled
"I did it!"
"Miss Akamatsu. Why would you break the door?" Mr Kirigiri looked dissatisfied with my actions, making my heart hurt
"It was an accident! I didn't mean to break the door..."
"Sadly Miss Akamatsu, I have to suspend you..." he grabbed a notebook, gently flipping through the pages and giving me a slip of paper "I'll give you 2 years to work up to your ultimate again, but I won't recognise you as an ultimate anymore."
"Kaede..." Ishimaru whispered, shocked. Looking at him, I still felt bad, I mean, I did make this situation and made it much worse, so I had to take responsibility...
"I understand! Please forgive Ishimaru! I will take this punishment." Taking the page, I felt my heart begin to feel heavy, my hands shaking slightly as he headed out. Ishimaru sped walked over to me
"Miss Akamatsu, why did you take the fall?"
"Because I know how important this school is to you Taka. I didn't want you to get expelled."
"Kaede..." He seemed touched, he must've not had someone be nice to him before "Thank you.. but the student they're letting is a gang leader."
"Well. Anyone can be an ultimate, hell I've seen the ultimate fly tamer in the year above us."
"Yes but... gang leader... that's extremely dangerous..." He looked down at his sleeve, still shaking. I grabbed his arm, hugging him
"Kiyotaka. You'll be ok... you're strong and confident! Even if you and I just broke a door over an argument, I hope we can be friends."
"Kae- M-Miss Akamatsu." He coughed before saying my first name "I'll do my best to not get kicked out. And I hope to see you as a freshmen."
"I hope to see you too Taka... but for now, I better get home and explain to my own parents how I got expelled." Stepping out to the top step, waving him off as he seemed to nod and walk off.

That happened 2 years ago, at Hopes Peak Academy. I got practically expelled from the main course to stay in the reserve course because I broke school property. I've always felt guilty, and when I saw repairmen having to repair the door when I passed the main building, I felt bad. But today. It is different. I'll make sure I will have a good year!

I'll try helping everyone have a good enough year!

As soon as I entered the school doors, I noticed hardly anything had changed: besides obviously new faces. I looked amongst the new year I was in, a short man with a spiked hat, a woman with gothic, Victorian clothing, a man with an outfit that looked like he escaped an asylum, an avocado, a short girl with a wizard's hat on, a tall woman with a massive green bow and a tiny skirt talking to a girl with a yellow coat and white hair, a guy with spiky purple hair talking to a woman with brown hair and red top, and a buff guy holding a bag, showing a robotic person and a blue haired lady something I assumed to be a bug collection. I wonder what all their ultimates would be, before I saw another person, a boy with raven hair hiding behind a looker.

I was curious at first, did this new boy have anxiety or something? He seemed unnaturally anxious. Approaching him, he looked up at me
"Are you ok..?" I asked
"A-ah. Yes I-I'm fine."
"You look interesting? Are you an ultimate here or are you a reserve coarse student who just happens to have fashion sense?" I joked, giggling, but he tilted his head, I think he was confused
"I'm... Shuichi Saihara... they call me the ultimate detective..."
"Wow a detective! That's amazing!" I smiled, I remembered Kyoko was also a detective, so I was glad that I met someone with a similar talent to an old friend
"Well... not really... I just... happened to solve a case..."
I looked confused, almost wanting to object but shrugged it off "I'm Kaede Akamatsu! The ultimate pianist."
"Ah... a pianist. I think I recognise you."
"Really?"
"Yes... did you play piano on Japan's national talent contest?"
"Wow! You really recognised me from that?" My eyes lit up "how exciting! I was only 6 though. How on earth would you recognise me?"
"Well... there's not a lot of Japanese people with blonde hair... plus your clips... they look similar to the ones you had as a kid... assuming that that was you."
"Well you are indeed correct! Ah! I'm so glad to have a friend here!"
"F-friend?"
"Yep! Why don't we go hang out together?" I saw the boy smiled, it was a cute smile
"Sure...

I'd love to..."

Point of View: Kiyotaka Ishimaru

As the Ultimate Moral Compass, I volunteered to help the new students fit into the new school! I was anxious to please. And since I had already met the ultimate artist and the ultimate inventor in that unpleasant memory, I felt like the rest of the class would be easy to deal with.

Well. I already felt like that would be wrong.

Heading down the hallway, I saw a familiar face, back peddling. Looking up at down, this girl seemed familiar... blonde... pale... curvy... my god!

I tapped her shoulder "Kaede!"
"Oh Taka!" I got hugged by her, me hugging back as I didn't know the response to give to that "how've you been?"
"I'm good! How are you and your new friend?"
"Ah! I'm good, I assume Shuichi is good too!"
"Y-yes I'm good!"
"I am glad!" I clapped my hands together "I will be giving you some tips and friendly advice for the new year!"
"How delightful!"
"Quite..."
"Well... I better gather everyone up, you guys go and look around, I'll be here and I'll want you here too in 10 minutes!"
"Right! Let's go Shuichi!" She grabbed his hand and ran off
"No running in the halls!"
"Sorry Taka!" Before she zoomed around the corner. My goodness.

I remembered that fondly, when I got to talk to Kaede again. It was around a month ago, and she remained a friend of mine like Angie and Miu.

One day, she came up to me, slightly worried "hey Taka... I've got to ask you something..."
"What is it Kaede? You can ask me anything as I am your friend. And friends ask each other questions."

"Okay Taka... well... I heard a rumour that you... have a crush on me."
"Well of course I d- wait wait wait what?"
"So it was true?"
"No no wait Kaede-!"
"Why didn't you say anything sooner?
"It's not true!"
"How so?"
"Kaede! It can't be true!
I'm gay!"
