The present (or so)
Sol woke up.
"Good morning!"
He opened his eyes.
He saw a dimly lit room. He was lying on a metal table.
Some soldiers entered the room with a large tray of food.
"Why did they kill my sister?" Sol asked himself quietly.
"The Red Cap troops killed your family and burned down the manor house." A soldier answered.
"We brought you here and tried to heal your wounds but you were too weak. We put you in this room to recover."
"Why did they destroy everything?"
"A portal was opened and demons came pouring out. They were slaughtering all the troops on sight."
"What!?"
"Do you want some food?"
"No what did the demons look like?"
"They are hideous creatures with large yellowish fangs and multiple eyes."
He showed Sol a picture on his phone of a demon.
"That's the creature that burned down my village!"
"We are under orders to kill all the demons on sight. The US military has been working on a powerful weapon but it hasn't been completed yet."
"Am I in the future?"
"The weapon has been tested and it can destroy any demon. It is located in a small plot of land in New Mexico."
"But i dont remember all this." Sol was getting confused.
"You should eat something."
Sol sat up and took the tray of food they offered him.
He started to eat and fell asleep.
