Lexa POV

I wake up to Clarke's warm embrace. Her face is nuzzled against my neck and her light breathe is sending shivers down my spine. Her arm lays across my chest and I know I will have to leave from her grasp soon to prepare for the battle. I debate whether to wake her now or allow her to sleep a little longer. I gently run my hand through her hair. I feel her pull us closer together. She must be slowly waking up.

"Clarke, wake up. We have a battle to win." I move my hand out of her hair to her cheek.

"Five more minutes." I barely hear her muffled voice. I lightly laugh. "Okay but I have to get up." I began to get out of bed and I feel her arms pull me down. "Noooo. Stay with me. You're warm."

"Clarke." I say sternly and try to get back up. She let's me this time. Before I begin to get ready I give her a kiss on her cheek. I see her smile and snuggle herself deeper into the furs.

Putting on my armor and war makeup can be a task but I don't mind it. I like the way it makes me feel. I feel like I am truly the Heda and I carry the strength and power of all the previous Hedas. I know that I am a successful Heda and I am making the right choices for my people. My only hope is that it will stay that way during my reign.

After I finish I go back to bed to wake Clarke. Her face is buried in the pillows so I run my hand through her hair. "Clarke, it is time to wake up."

I hear her muffled voice but can't understand her. "I can't hear you Clarke." I laugh out. "Plus I need you by my side for this battle. I'll help you get ready."

I hear a heavy sigh and she begins to get up. "Fine." She quickly gets dressed and claims she is ready. I laugh again.

"Do you want war painting like mine and my warriors?" Her face lights up at the question but quickly turns to a thinking face. "No, my people won't have any on." I nod at her answer.

"I have one last thing for you before we gather the army." I move to the nearby desk and reach behind it pulling out a sword. "I know you prefer your gun but I hope you will carry this sword with you too. You know a few basic skills with the sword that I trust you with it."

"Lexa, I.." she hesitates and looks between me and the sword. Thank you is all she said when she finally spoke. I begin to doubt that she even wants the sword.

"I had the local smith make it for you. I wanted us to get more sword training in before I give it to you but I feel you will need it today." I help her attach it to herself. It is on her left side while her gun is holster on her right side. She smiles at me.

"I do appreciate it. It will take some use to though. I'm honestly not a fan of using weapons. I've never killed before and the idea scares me." Her eyes look glassed over like she is holding back tears. I bring my hands to her face and allow my thumb to caresse her cheek.

"I won't lie. Killing is hard. Everytime I have to kill someone I hate it. However, it is the way of life here. I wish I could change it. I wish that I could take away all the killings but I can't. I promise I will be with you during and after the battle to help you get through the pain of all the deaths." She smiles and gently kisses me. It is a light kiss but also a 'I need you' dependent kiss.

After our moment, we both left and went to meet the generals. Based on the light shining through the trees, everybody should be ready to head up the mountain. I hope the battle plan works for the sake of my people and Clarke's.
