Assassination Attempt

Clarke POV

I left Tondc early with Raven. We were told to take the radio back to Arkadia because the clan members were requesting to destroy it. Lexa did not want any issues between our two people. When we got back to Arkadia, Raven was set up with the radio listening for Bellamy. He was supposed to contact us almost a hour ago.

"Quit pacing Clarke. Bellamy is fine." Raven said with easy. How is she not worried?

"He was suppose to contact already. What if he was discovered?" I kept pacing. I could hear Raven sigh. Before she got a chance to reply, static started coming through the radio then Bellamy's voice.

"Ra...*static*...there...*more static*" Raven messes with some nobs and soon his voice came through clearly. "Raven? Are you there?"

"Bellamy, about time you contacted us. Clarke was creating a rut with her pacing" Raven jokes.

"Sorry, there is more guards around then usual. They are preparing to do something. I am about to investigate using the ventilation shafts." Bellamy voice scratched through.

"Okay, take the radio with you so we can hear also." Raven instruction.

In a couple of long minutes, Bellamy is in the shafts and is following the voices echoing through. We couldn't make out the voices yet. Raven and I listened quietly waiting in anticipation. I can't stand this.

"Congratulations Lt. Emerson. You can now walk outside without a suit." Cage Wallace comes through the radio. "I have a mission for you. Are you ready?"

"Yes, sir," I assume it is Lt. Emerson.

"Good. I need you to assassinate these savages leader. They are preparing for an attack and with her gone chaos will break them apart." Cage's voice was calm and showing no emotion. I gasped at the news. I need to warn Lexa. She needs to be protected. She can't die. I need her. Tears start to form but I am determined to save her.

"...I know you are the best shot. Get it done." I missed most of what he said but it doesn't matter. I will stop him. I quickly leave the room and run to our horses. I hear my name being called out but I ignore it. I rush towards Mount Weather.

My mind is racing with all the what ifs and what I need to do to prevent them. Based on the later sentence I heard Cage say I assume he will try to snipe her. If he does that, he must be along the mountain side facing towards TonDC. As a approach the mountain side, I began to wonder if I am too late. What if he already got into position and spotted her?

"Clarke? Clarke!" I heard Ryder's voice. I quickly turn towards the direction of his voice.

"Shhh." I glare at him then whisper, "what are you doing here?"

"Lexa sent me to find you. She is worried." He whispers back as he approached me. "Why are we whispering?" He begans to scan his surroundings.

"The Mountain Men plan on assassinating Lexa. I think he will be along this mountain side." I go to move further up the mountain and out of the treeline.

"Wait!" Ryder grabs my wrist. "We have more cover in the trees. We need to spot him before he spots us." He begins to lead me through the trees while we both scan the mountain side. I noticed a glint not to far away.

"There" I point to the glinting object. It must be his scope. Ryder sees it. He then points for me to go directly up the mountain side along the rocks for protection. He wants me to flank him.

I got up the mountain side like he pointed while he continues along the treeline. As I approach the sniper I slightly slip and rocks began to roll downwards. I hear gunfire and quickly duck behind a rock. Shit. He spotted me. I listened to see if I can hear him if he moves from his spot. Nothing yet. I decide to take a glance around the rock. I quickly poke my head out and catch a glance of him. I duck back before hearing his gun fire. He isn't wearing a suit. How is he not wearing a suit? The mountain men didn't have the resistance to the radiation like we did. That's why they needed Lexa's people. I thought Cage was full of shit when he said he didn't need a suit but seeing him without one confirmed it.

I hear a loud grunt and rocks rolling downward. The sounds snapped me out of my thoughts. I poke my head back out to see Ryder and the sniper fighting. I grabbed my gun and rush towards them.

"Stop or I will shoot you." I threaten while point my gun at the sniper. He glances up at me and stops attacking Ryder. Ryder, however, punches him hard one more time knocking him out.

"Mochof, we need to take him to Heda." He begans to tie his hands and feet up and then lifts him to his shoulder. I holster my gun, thankful I didn't have to use it. We began down the Mountain side back to our horses.

It did not take us long to get to TonDC. The sniper was still knocked out cold when we arrived. Ryder takes him to a pole and ties him to it. I know he will be tortured for information but right now my concern is Lexa. I go directly to her tent. I don't acknowledge her guard and immediately rush in.

Lexa gasps when I entered and before she could respond I tackle her in a hug. She stumbles back a little before regaining her balance.

"Clarke, what's wrong?" Concern and worry fill her voice.

"I'm just glad that you are okay." I smile and pull her into a kiss. It was a quick kiss due to her pulling away with confusion written on her face.

"What happened?"
