I walked slowly up to the hat and stool, my stomach churning. The hat was placed on my head and it began to make its decision, “I didn’t think I’d be getting another Black until the next generation, hmm. Not Hufflepuff nor Ravenclaw. Although when It comes down to Slytherin or Gryffindor you could go either way. Which brother’s path will you follow? Your cunning, competitive, secretive and you come from a long line of serpents, but you are also impulsive, never afraid to speak your mind, chivalrous and Gryffindor could give you a long line of lions. Hmm”
It went quiet for a few minutes, I think everyone was angry at me now for holding up dinner. “Your input could make the decision,” it said quietly for only my ears to hear. I looked side to side. Both boys seemed to stare at me hopefully, I couldn’t decide between my brothers; new found or not. I whispered so quietly that I questioned if the hat could hear me. “I will not choose between my brothers’, you are the sorting hat don’t put your job on students,”
My words gave the hat exactly what it needed to hear, as it yelled “GRYFFINDOR!!!” The table cheered so loudly, I could hear the Marauders as they called themselves cheering the loudest. I sat beside my brother who had his arm around Remus, as people congratulated me. Don’t disappoint me like your older brother, the voice of my angry father rang through my head, as the smile slipped from my lips. When the cheering subsided Dumbledore cleared his throat, “Thank you miss Black for a record Hatstall, now everyone dig in,”
“What is with your nicknames,” I asked starting a conversation at the dinner table.
“What do you mean,” asked Remus nervously
“A person or animal that goes from one place to another looking for people to kill or things to steal or destroy is the definition of a marauder and the only one of your nicknames that is even slightly predatorial is Padfoot which means a ghostly black dog,” I replied, taking a long sip of pumpkin juice.
“Th-they’re just name’s,” Peter stuttered. I shrugged and kept eating.
When dinner was done I walked back to Gryffindor with the boys. They had a painting as a security mechanism. I looked around the room taking it all in there were people talking around roaring fire, chess sets in the corner, lion tapestries hung on the walls and at the back of the room a spiral staircase I assumed led to the dorms. I was snapped out of my trance when a girl with fiery red hair and bright green tapped me on the shoulder; there were two girls behind her one was tall, with blonde hair and the other had dark curly brown hair and bronze skin.
“Hey, I’m Lily this is Dorcas and this is-” before she could finish, the blonde stepped forward and introduced herself, “Marlene Mckinnon, your new dorm mate,”
“Iris Artemis, the arse who held up dinner,” I replied.
I walked up to my dorm, and there was Louis curled up on my pillow. My bed was the furthest from the door, it was technically out of sight. I unpacked my belongings as the other girls, talked about their summers. I was done early so I walked over. “So, Lily have you finally had your first kiss,” The blonde asked as she put her belongings away without folding them. “Yeah, Ed kissed me before he left for college,” she said happily.
“So Pretty new girl, why the late arrival to Hogwarts,” the blonde asked jumping on her bed.
“Long, very sad story,” I said sitting beside the red head.
“Anyone caught your eye yet,” asked the brunette.
“Not really, no,” I said a pair of hazel eyes coming to mind.
“Do you guys have a curfew here?” I asked.
“We have to stay in Gryffindor after 10, only exception to the rule are Prefects, whose duties require them to be up at the crack of dawn,” said the red head.
