“Iris, how the hell are you so relaxed we have our O.W.L’s in less than a month,” Lily said rubbing her face, we were sitting under a tree enjoying the sun.

“A F.O. X, they’re the French equivalent to an O.W.L I’ve done them,” I replied sitting up.

“Well then help me study,” Lily said chucking me a book.

“Piss off, I’ve done my studying and you’re already predicted to get all O’s,”

“Do you think I could climb this tree,” I was bored as Lily was studying silently.

“Yes, I do. But I don’t encourage it,” Lily said, flipping the page.

I walked up to the first branch of the tall tree, I was wearing tight trousers so it was harder to climb than I thought but I still managed to get up. I dug my fingers into the bark and soon I was at the third steady branch. I was doing it almost out of mind, as I reached the sixth. I looked down at Lils and noticed how far away she was, why did I do this again.

“Lily,” I yelled, clawing my hands into the high branch I was currently on.

“Merlin’s beard, Ris. How in Godric’s name did you get up there?” the girl said getting her nose out of a book and looking up at me.

“I climbed a tree,” I replied.

“Wow Ris, I thought it was a large piece of broccoli,”

I actually started thinking for a moment, and pulled my wand from my back pocket. I slowly floated down to the ground like a bird feather. “You’re like Glinda from Wizard of Oz,” Lily said smiling at me. “Yes, Wizard of Oz because I know what that is,” I reminded the girl as I was back on solid ground.

“You pure-bloods miss out on so much,” Lils commented, as she started to pack up her stuff.

“What are you doing,” I asked,

“Packing up, while you were climbing the tree the sun was starting to set,” she answered. I helped the girl, putting the books in free slots in her bag like a puzzle for toddlers. I linked my arm with hers as we walked back into the castle, my stomach rumbling, I was starving.

We reached the dinner table, Marlnene and Dorcas were talking. “Hello, witches. What are we discussing?” I asked sitting next to Dorcas as Lily sat beside Marlene. Marlene was staring at Dorcas, “Please tell Dorcas that she’s drop-dead gorgeous,” I turned to the girl completely Serious.

“Dorcas you have coils of leaf brown hair that brings out your glossy tawny skin, your knowing looks, your carob eyes and that sweet smile on your lips, you dazzle me every day I look upon you,” I said smiling at the girl.

“You can’t have just come up with that on the spot as true as it is,” Marlene said

“Dorcas inspires me, she could be my muse if her heart did not belong to another,” I replied putting my hand to my chest and looking away from her with a pained expression.

“I’m sorry but my heart belongs to a blonde beauty,” Dorcas said staring at Marlene

“Oh, the great great pain that swallows me,”

“Sometimes you speak so eloquently and other times you sound like a toddler,” Lily commented off topic.

“Yeah it’s the translating,” I replied, the girls looked as if they needed more context, “I grew up only speaking French and although I speak English really well, sometimes I have to translate French to English in my head and so it depends because if I translate the french is more eloquent and if not I can use English slang that doesn’t have a french counterpart,”
