Reg and I were walking through the gardens. “So who’s Alphard?” I asked Regulus as he informed me of the man's death
“My mother’s youngest brother, he left money for Sirius,”
“But I thought-,”
“That once Sirius was burnt off the tapestry everyone in the family was supposed to shun him, yeah they are,”
“Do you know how much he got,”
“His riches were split between, me, Sirius and someone else,”
“So is that a lot of money,”
“He held the most liquid money in the family, it’s a lot,”
“Well congrats, keep it safe,” I said sighing loudly, “I’ll see you soon Reg I’ve got so much bloody homework,” the boy nodded before waving me off.
I walked up to Gryffindor begrudgingly, “Moony, my uncle just died,” Sirius yelled, the marauders sat around the fireplace. The room was almost completely empty, I blamed it on the fact that most people were still having dinner.
“Iris, my uncle just died,” Sirius then exclaimed acknowledging my presence
“I know, glad to see your not upset,” I said sitting on a large armchair, around the fire
“I am upset in a weird, I wish I had gotten to know him better way, but other then that we were never that close, he was introverted and if he ever did come to a party he’d get so drunk there was no way you could hold a proper conversation with the man, but I guess he couldn’t have been that bad if he left money for his disowned, gay nephew and not his crazy, blood purist, death eater neice,” I let out an amused sigh, agreeing with the boy.
“Has anyone done the transfiguration homework yet,” I yelled as I went up to my room to get my incomplete homework, I really couldn’t be bothered with English theory work. “I’ll help you just let me get my work,” I heard James yell jumping up from his seat.
The room had become ever slightly more populated as I sat beside James doing my homework, trying not to get distracted as the boy rested his arm on my shoulders, his hand resting lazily on my shoulder the warmth of his fingertips through my shirt, I swallowed and looked back at the work, I found it easy but I didn’t want to risk losing points because of my spelling.
Suddenly James squeezed my shoulder in a friendly manner, “You okay, you haven’t written anything for almost ten minutes,” the boy said, smiling his face close to mine.
“Yeah, sorry just a little out of it,” I said smiling, leaning back so I could no longer feel his warm breath lightly fan my face when he spoke.
I looked up from my homework to survey the room, my attention was immediately caught by Remus and Sirius. Remus was twirling a cigarette in his fingers as if contemplating whether to light it or not while the other hand casually held a sleeping Sirius closer. The boy looked down at Sirius, a light-hearted smile rested on his face contrasting the straight line his lips had been in moments before and he slipped the cigarette in his top pocket deciding against it.
“I didn’t know you smoked,”
“On and off, Sirius hates it though never complains, I can see it on his face,” Remus said looking up at me. I wondered if smoking reminded Sirius of Grimmauld Place considering Orion almost breathed cigars and if you opened any of the windows above the second floor a cigarette smell lingered. I then looked around the room and noticed a certain person had gone missing.
“Where’s Pete,” I asked
“Went down to the kitchens, end of the dinner rush, there’s a lot of spare food. He likes to save it and feed it to the more meat eaty plants in the herbology greenhouses,” James explained mindlessly.
