Welcome to Frostbite. This is my first supernatural book so I'm sorry if there are things you don't particularly agree with. If you have come across this book and want to read my others they can be found through my profile. My instagram art account is listed in my bio for contact.
Some say vampires are dangerous monsters who feed on the lives of innocent people for fun. No remorse. Not one single hint of humanity. Just blood thirsty, emotionless whores.
Hi, I'm Cora. And I'm a vampire.
For centuries, I've been hunted down to be experimented on. Why may you ask? I am a different breed of vampire. Having never known my real parents, I don't know what I am exactly. Scientists want to use me to their advantage as they think I am the key to some vampirism cure babble bullshit. Only one good thing came out of those experiments:
Adilyn.
Adilyn is my vampire daughter.
Shocking huh? Most scientists and humans never thought a vampire could produce children. Well apparently it's possible. If you're born human and get turned, you're that age from now on. However if you're born to vampire parents or your mother was turned before birth, the child will be born a vampire and will stop aging at 18. It's quite annoying because you constantly have to move places after 3-4 years of being there. If you stay too long people will grow suspicious of your youth and the most important rule for all vampires: don't get yourself exposed.
One of the best ways to do that, is to kill every victim or compel them. Make sure they're not wearing vervain or have any in their system. Most don't considering modern humans believe we are just a myth. But it is not just vampires who live among the idiotic bastards. Oh no, no my sweet. You have werewolves, witches, gremlins, a whole bunch of supernatural creatures. Hell you even have angels and demons.
Werewolves? Not so pleasant some of them. Some packs can ally with vampires, while others choose to despise us. Which is perfectly fine because I don't like the damn beasts myself. All I know of my parents is they were killed by a pack of wolves. I never learned who, nor where, nor when.
I simply know nothing of my past or upbringing. But growing up without a family... you promise yourself never to leave your children like that. And I did just that. When I learned I was pregnant, I was scared and wanted to die. I didn't want a child born into those crazy asylums they put vampires and supernatural creatures in. Plus, I didn't think I could have children at all. But as the little pimple started to grow, I softened. Then I learned it was a baby girl. I started to feel the love I had for my child. And that's when I promised never to leave her. Never to harm her. Only protect her and keep her safe from the dangers of this life.
It's not like twilight where children grow 5 years older in a whole fucking day. It's just like raising an actual child. Vampire children don't feel blood lust or need to feed on blood until they reach maturity, usually around 14. Until then they are fine to feed on human food, as are all vampires. Not all of us necessarily NEED to feed on human blood. Some can survive on animal. I've tried that. The most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. So Adilyn and I stick to blood bags. It's not dangerous for the humans, and it's not disgusting to us. Human food isn't too bad. It can help with hunger if you're ever imprisoned (like me) or have no blood around.
Enemies. I don't have many besides the scientists and some humans that occasionally piss me off but there are still vampires that get under my skin. In fact, I take pride in killing other vampires if they step over the line. The line being my daughter. No one besides the scientists know she even is my daughter and I intend to keep it that way. If vampires were to find out everyone would come for her. Other than assholes, I don't actually have a grudge against anyone. I prefer to live an isolated life besides the close circle I have. It's good because Adilyn has them to talk to and she's not completely alone.
As for the moving part, we are currently on our way to yet another location. Not because time is up or anything, just hunters. They found our home in Seattle. We want to go far so they won't catch up or track us. We are going from all the way up north, to all the way down south. Our destination is Austin, Texas. We are currently passing through Utah and on the way to Colorado. We don't stop unless we're hungry, need to go to the bathroom, or any other necessities. Sleep is actually quite useful on long journeys. And no dumbass, I'm not driving. Me, Adilyn, and Athena are in the back of the large truck laying down while Julian drives and holds hands with Dylan who's in the passenger seat. They gay and adorable as hell 🏳️🌈. (Yes I support LGTBQ+ and if you don't then that's your opinion, don't hate people based on what they believe).
This is my little family. We've stuck together for a very long time. I met Dylan when I was 16. I reached maturity and had an extreme blood lust I couldn't control. He helped me control myself and trained me. That's how we discovered what powers I had, and other things about me. We met Athena a few years later in a vampire battle. Some drunk vampire was hitting on me at a bar and Dylan backed me up. They started fighting, Dylan won and Athena was the bartender. She aided a cut Dylan had gotten even though we can heal. And then 3 years later we met Julian. A newbie vampire who was turned at 18 by some rude ass bully in an alley. We heard the screams as we were out one night and found a vampire turning Julian. We helped him through his emotional rollercoaster, trained him, everything. When I fell pregnant with Adilyn, they were my biggest supporters. They helped me in research to find answers even though we didn't. They even helped me raise the little goofball. I trust them with my life, and Adilyns. I know they'd never let us down.
I hope chapter 1 wasn't boring. There will be dialogue in chapter 2 for sure. I'll write more tomorrow, I'm tired as hell. Night loves!
