A small young woman walked down the bustling streets of Rio. Her pink dressed swayed as it blew slightly up from the soft breeze. Her hair was pulled up into a bun as sunglasses rested on the bridge of her nose as she walked on. But she wasn't alone.
The giggles of two little boys could be heard despite how loud the food vendors, cars, and mopeds were. They were sat comfortably in a double stroller as their mother went shopping for groceries. She stopped at a fruit market. She grabbed a mango and passion fruit and held it out in front of the two boys.
"Do we want mango," she held both fruits up, "or passion fruit?"
The boys paused and looked between the two fruits then at their mother. One picked the mango and the other picked the passion fruit. The young woman sighed and chuckled.
"I guess I'll have to get both," she smiled.
The two boys cheered with excitement and waved their little hands. Michiko grabbed a few mangoes and passion fruits and placed them into a plastic bag. She gave the vendor money and bid farewell to them.
"Can I have?" One asked.
"Me too?" The other added.
"You can both have some when we get home," she smiled sweetly, "we have to wash all the germs away before eating."
They simultaneously nodded. She just loved her boys. While they were one of the biggest surprises in her life, they were one of the greatest things to have happened. Twins. Identical twins to be exact. Michiko snorted at the idea of having another set of twins in her life.
"No whining Satoshi," Michiko chided, "and stop poking your brother's head, Hacchin."
The twins pouted. Oh, how adorable they were. They were slightly lighter in complexion compared to Michiko. Their heads were topped with short, wavy coils of black hair. Satoshi had a mole above his right eyebrow while Hacchin had one above his left. They were literally the spitting image of their father, just a little darker in complexion.
The young woman strolled them out of the fruit market and back on to the busy streets. The sun was beating down on the trio, but they were used to it. As Michiko walked along the sidewalk, she could hear the noisiness of the beach she was approaching.
There were shouts and yells from games of beach volleyball, and the cheers of the crowds that watched. It's been awhile since I last played... she thought. She was so entranced by the sound of the ball being passed and hit that she couldn't hear the yells coming from behind her.
"Lookout!" yelled a familiar voice.
Michiko recognized the non-Portuguese language and turned around to find someone trying to slow down on their bike. At the last minute, Michiko luckily moved the stroller out of the way.
