Sakusa was brought back from his thoughts as he became hyperaware that he was holding hands with Michiko. The boys walked in front of them as they laughed and cheered.
"Are you sure you're ok with this?" Sakusa slightly lifted their hands that were intertwined.
"I mean, if you're not comfortable, we don't have to hold hands," Michiko said shyly as she glanced down at their hands.
That's something that hasn't disappeared. Michiko was still thoughtful even when she didn't have to be.
"It's not that I'm uncomfortable, it's just..." he trailed off, "... I don't want to push it with you."
Michiko raised her gaze to look up at the curly-headed man. He was focused on the two little boys ahead of them, but she felt the uncertainty that radiated off of him. Sakusa was slightly tense and the small woman lightly tightened her grip on his hand.
"It's ok," she reassured, "it feels weirdly right to me if that makes you feel any better."
Sakusa silently chuckled, even when he tried to be thoughtful, Michiko always had to make sure that he was ok.
Michiko did her best to hide her nervousness. Here she was holding hands with the father of her children, and yet she had no idea who he was. Sure she felt this blurry connection she had with him, but Michiko felt like she was in the dark at the same time.
It was like she couldn't be fully intimate with him. The touch felt comforting as if her body welcomed it, but she battled internally with her mind as parts of it signaled that this man was just some stranger to her. Losing my memories suck, she thought bitterly.
"Did you take the train?"
Michiko glanced up at Sakusa, "Yes. Is that alright?"
She must've noticed the small grimace he made, "It's fine. We'll just have to find the least populated area on the train."
"Ok," Michiko slightly tilted her head.
As if on cue, Satoshi and Hacchin turned their heads to look back at Michiko and Sakusa.
"Daddy doesn't like germs like us," Hacchin informed.
"Yeah, he wears a mask and uses hand sani," Satoshi grinned.
"Oh," Michiko said lightly.
I'll have to take note of that, she thought as they neared the train station.
"You two have your masks, right?" Sakusa grunted.
The twins happily nodded as they pulled their masks from the pocket of their jackets. Their actions made Michiko smile. She didn't notice how entranced Sakusa was by the way her face glowed as the corners of her lips were uplifted. Why is she so cute?
But then he was caught as her eyes moved up to look at him, the smile still present on her face. His eyes widened by just a fraction as warmth crept onto his cheeks making him look away from the small woman beside him. Michiko noticed how the tips of his ears were red making her look away still smiling.
