Sakusa checked into the hospital and trekked to Michiko's room. He knew about her sudden awakening from a few weeks ago. When he heard that she had no memories except that of the boys, his heart slightly ached.
He tried to prepare himself for this, he really did. Sakusa usually visited Michiko during the day before practice, but now that she was awake, he wasn't sure he could handle the reality of her not remembering him at the moment. So Sakusa opted for nights after practice. The twins came along with him often, but they usually went home before it got too late.
Once he arrived, he peered through the small window making sure she was asleep. Sakusa slowly opened the door, entered, and shut it carefully. He sighed out a breath before pulling a chair up to Michiko's right side. He lightly smiled at the sleeping woman.
"You've always been a deep sleeper," he muttered.
He was answered with silence as he stared at Michiko.
Sakusa kept a low tone, "The boys told me you woke up and they were super excited."
The small smile soon turned into a wide grin as Sakusa thought back to Satoshi and Hacchin's telling of their mother waking up. But it disappeared as Sakusa's mind was filled with the truth of Michiko not being able to remember him.
Sakusa leaned back into his chair, "But they were sad when you couldn't remember anyone else."
"And I know it's not your fault... but it just sucks," Sakusa whispered.
He felt a tightness in his chest as he continued to look upon Michiko's sleeping form.
"It sucks that we had to meet like this, but the boys did bring me to you," Sakusa chuckled as he recalled the realization that he was a dad to the two little boys wandering around Modoru Convenient Store.
"I've... I've missed you a lot," Sakusa sighed, "I wished that we met under different circumstances, but what can you do?"
Sakusa's gaze moved down to Michiko's hand. Her pinky was still adorned by the matching promise ring that he had put on for her during Valentine's Day. He reached out and gently took hold of her hand. His fingers lightly brushed over the cold metal as Sakusa stared at how it reflected against the light of the hospital room.
Sakusa felt his phone vibrate against his leg and took it out of his pocket to find a notification from the MSBY group chat. He opened his messages. Meian sent a picture of Atsumu and the little twins. Atsumu sat with his legs crisscrossed on the kitchen floor next to a trashcan.
A piece of paper with a smiley face drawn on it was stuck to the trashcan. Someone had placed a white jacket on the trashcan while Atsumu had on one of his black team jackets. Atsumu looked irritated making Sakusa feel some sort of satisfaction. Satoshi and Hacchin stood behind Atsumu giving the camera a thumbs up with shit-eating grins.
