“Hey, Mikey.” Ashton said slamming my chest. I rolled my eyes and reluctantly tore my attention away from my phone screen to see what it was that he wanted.

“Yes, Ashton.”

“Look over there. There’s the girl again. She looks so fucking hot dude!”

“If you don’t go talk to her I will and you know once she gets a taste of-”

“Okay, fine! I'm going, I'm going.” Ashton said waving his hands in front of his face as if he was trying to push away the mental image I’d just given him. I chuckled and shook my head as he walked off.

It was almost three months since Ashton first saw this mystery girl and apparently his balls were on a vacation because he never once attempted to speak to her. No, he thought it was better to watch her from across the room, panting like a pathetic dog. I understood where he was coming from. I mean; yeah, the girl did look hot but, in my opinion, she wasn’t that hot. I don’t know why he was even making such a big deal. All he had to do was go over and talk to the girl, it really wasn’t that hard.

In Ashton’s defence, she was unlike any other girl he’d ever seen. It sounded clichéd coming from me but even I saw it. There was something about this girl that just seemed... off. Like, she was the kind you knew would break your heart but you know you’d enjoy the ride... quite literally and figuratively. That was what probably attracted Ashton to her which was surprising in itself. He was never one to take extreme risks. He liked order, he was obsessed with it. His motto was ‘everything has a place and there is a place for everything’ or however it went; I didn’t really care. When he graduated high school he started working at this shitty book store he used to work at summer after summer. It was literally the same thing with him every single day; he’d get up, make coffee, read the paper, shower, dress, work, home, dinner, bed, repeat. Sometimes I really wondered how he managed to live like that. Day after day, doing the same thing over and over again.

There was a part of me that wanted him to actually grow the balls and go talk to her. Maybe she was the whirlwind he needed in his life. Maybe she was going to be the girl who finally taught Ashton how to get his head out of his ass and live, maybe she was going to show him there was more to the world than the four walls of that stupid book store he worked at.

I heard a loud crash and my head immediately snapped up to see what had just happened. I didn’t even need to look to know what happened. He had started walking over to the nameless girl with the shoulder length pitch black hair whose attention was fixed on the phone in her hand. The headphones in her ears were connected to the iPod that was on the table and her head was bobbing up and down to the music. Everything about this girl just screamed literal awesomeness. She had her Ray bans sunglasses on even though she was indoors and her legs were stretched out on the chair across from her and she looked like she didn’t have a care in the world. Her baggy ripped jeans were rolled up over her ankles exposing a dream catcher tattoo.

Somewhere, somehow though, in the few seconds it took to walk over to the girl Ashton changed his mind and made a u-turn which probably wasn’t the brightest idea. He banged his knee on one of the tables causing him to stumble backwards and trip over a chair. Being the clumsy person that he was; he grabbed onto the table cloth to steady himself and well... crash. He tried scrambling to his feet and pretending nothing happened but it was too late for that.

The girl looked up and took her sunglasses off and watched as Ashton tried to scramble to his feet. She chuckled and shook her head as she took her attention off him and focused on her phone. I swear I saw her mouth ‘fucking idiot’ when she saw Ashton and I chuckled. I loved this girl already and that only made me want Ashton to get with her that much more.
