“Hi!” Ashton beamed as he slid in the seat across from me a few days after the incident at the burger joint. He’d probably just walked in the coffee shop and he saw me sitting in the corner. This time I was skimming through a magazine that was probably left on the table by the last person there; I was that bored.
“Hey.” I said without even looking up. There was something that just told me it was him. I had been coming to this place for ages and people knew not to just come up at sit at my table without me inviting them.
“How are you?” He asked drumming his fingers on the table. I glanced at them and he stopped. I dropped my head and smirked; I hardly even knew him and I had this much control over him. The mere thought of that made me feel empowered in a way.
“Pretty fucking amazing. You?”
“Uh, me?” He asked and I dropped the magazine and looked up at him. I raised an eyebrow and looked around just to make sure we were the only ones seated at the table.
“Yes, you. Ashton, isn’t it?” I asked and he nodded. “How are you?”
“Ahh... I'm good I guess.”
“Cool.” I said and turned my attention back to the magazine. It wasn’t really that interesting it was just that my iPod had died and this was all I could do to pass the time; clearly having a conversation with Ashton was out of the question because he barely spoke whenever he was near me.
“So...” He said and I glanced up at him again, hoping we could actually have a decent conversation this time. “What are you reading?”
“I honestly have no clue. I don’t read shit like this.” I said smiling at him. He returned it and I saw the very deep dimples on his cheeks. It gave him a sorta of childish look but the stubble on his face was telling me something else. I hadn’t quite made up my mind on what I thought about Ashton. He was different from other guys; that was for sure. By now I probably would’ve already been on a few dates and then some.
“What do you do?” Ashton asked, catching me off guard.
“What do you mean?” I asked closing the magazine and placing my hands on the table, looking right into his brownish green eyes... or maybe they were greenish brown. Whatever colour they were, they were very intriguing and they almost made me forget just how much of a loser he was. Almost.
“Like... your job. What do you do? I mean; I see you here all the time so I was just wondering...”
“Oh... I work at a radio station.” I said and my inner human did a few back flips when I saw the look on his face.
“Really? That’s cool!”
“Yeah, it is. I basically get paid to be awesome.” I said twisting my hair into a bun at the top of my head. I hated that it was getting this long.
“Which radio station?” He asked a little bit too excitedly and I cringed at the sound of his high pitched voice.
“Only the best one here.”
“No way!” He yelled and a few heads turned to look at us. Apparently this was a thing with him; always attracting attention wherever he went. “What time?”
I glanced down at my watch before looking back at him. “The one that starts in an hour.” I said taking my iPod off the table and sliding it in my back pocket.
“I really love that show. I listen to it whenever I can.” Aston said as I continued to gather my things so I could leave. This almost always happened; I lost track of time and ended up having to rush off.
“Really? Then I’ll make sure to give you a shout out then.” I said standing from the table. The look on his face was to die for and I found myself beaming at him. “I have to go be awesome now.” I said walking off.
I was halfway to the door when I turned around and walked back to the table. “What’s your name?”
“Ashton. I told you this already, Hunter.” Ashton said frowning at me.
“Adria.” I said holding back a laugh. He actually thought Hunter was my first name.
“What?”
“My name is Adria.” I said slowly, making sure he got it this time.
“But you said it was Hunter.”
“Adria Hunter.”
“Oh, cool.”
“And I was asking for your full name.” I said trying to speed up this conversation. I practically had only a few minutes left to get back to the radio station.
“Uh, Ashton Fletcher Irwin?” He answered but it came out as a question.
“Great. See you around, Irwin.” I said before I rushed off.
