Ellie POV

"Are you sure?" Tommy and Maria both ask at the same time.

"I know it," Joel says.

The room is silent and the beeping has moved onto a steady beep, faster than it was before but not as crazy as before.

My chest burns as I try to keep waking my body up.

"Ask her to squeeze again," Maria implies. The baby coos as I wait for Joel's response.

"It's okay, kiddo. We know you're here," He whispers to me. "Don't push yourself, take your time,"

The burning sensation travels throughout my body, stinging. Everyone's attention is on me, even the dust in the room. I try to open my eyes but my face still feels numb. I focus on my hand again, squeezing lightly but enough that Joel can feel it and everyone else can barely see it.

"Oh my god," Maria breathes out.

Joel excitedly squeezes back, a cry of relief pours out of him.

"Let me take her," Tommy says to Maria who I assume is talking about the baby.

Seconds later, Maria urgently grabs my other hand, sitting down in the chair. The creaks from the chair echo throughout the quiet room. Slight pain shoots up my arm as Maria raises my hand a little so she can hold it better. I'm able to gently squeeze it, Maria excitedly laughs.

The tingly feeling turns into a warm feeling, starting at my chest. I'm able to control my breathing again, it slightly burns but it natraully goes away. I've missed feeling alive.

My whole body burns and tingles as I try to move anything. I'm able to slightly move my toes and squeeze Joel and Maria's hand.

I take a deep breath and try to open my eyes.

They feel like they're glued shut but I'm able to slightly squint them.

"Joel, her eyes," Tommy points out.

I'm able to very slowly open one eye and then the other slowly opens.

My eyes squint and blink as I try to adjust to the light. Everything in the room is so bright and the light above me is almost like piercing me with swords through my eyeballs.

Once I'm able to keep them open without having to constantly blink, I'm able to see the scene.

I look over to my right and I'm able to see Joel. His face looks like he hasn't slept for days and he needs a haircut. Tears stream down his face as he looks at me.

I look to my left and see Maria. Her hair is longer than before and it has a hint of gray, but I won't tell her that. She's also crying but her eyes look like they're full of so much pain. Ever since she lost Madeline, I bet it's been hard on her.

I look up to Tommy who's also crying but he had a smile on his face. In his arms, I can tell it's my baby wrapped in a small blanket. I want to see her closer.

I try to talk but my vocal cords aren't exactly warmed up. All I can do is breathe out air. I look over to Joel, concerned that they won't understand. He nods, seeming to understand.

"Tommy, can you bring the baby over?" Joel asks.

"Sure, no problem," Tommy says, walking over on Joel's side, getting as close as he can to the bed.

He leans over a little bit and holds the baby out so I can see her.

She looks a little like me.

She giggles and stretches her hands out towards me, wanting to be held. Her eyes are bright green and she doesn't really look a lot like Finn. Her nose is somewhat in the middle but she looks just like me.
