"One of the most troublesome things in life is that what you do or do not want has very little to do with what does or does not happen."

"Does she even feel anything?" Draco muttered to Blaise, sending an unpleasant glare Eden's way as she stirred their cauldron of Veritaserum. Eden simply rolled her eyes when he wasn't looking. Her preferred method of getting under peoples skin was pretending they weren't worth the breath she'd waste on insulting them. With Draco, this method was particularly effective.
"Draco." Blaise warned. "What, defending your little girlfriend, Zabini?" Draco sneered. "You know that I'm just-" Blaise began.
"No, he's right." Eden looked up from the half complete Veritaserum. "I don't need you defending me." Her casual shrug betraying how her eyes bore into him, secretly daring him to defy her. "Your cruelness only intrigues me further." Blaise grinned wickedly. If it were possible to internally vomit, Eden would have.
"Let me make up for my behaviour on the train. Come to the Slytherin party in the room of requirements on Saturday." He leaned back into his chair, crossing one ankle over his knee. "You can't invite her to my party." Draco growled. Eden would have told him she wasn't going to go anyway, but this was far more entertaining.
"All of Slytherin is invited." Blaise rolled his eyes. "So you think your invitation is valid when i'm already invited?" Eden raised her eyebrows. "I'm inviting you to be my date, Avery." Blaise chuckled. Eden glanced at Draco, who was looking at him with bewilderment. Once again, Blaise had called her Avery in front of Draco.
Draco turned her way, and she pretended to look as puzzled as he apparently felt. Thankfully. It worked. "She's not invited." Draco hissed. "So everyone but Avery is invited?" Blaise cocked his eyebrows, and Eden nearly groaned with frustration. "I'm going, invitation or no. But i'm not going with you, Blaise." She cut Draco off before he could question Blaise on the name he kept referring to her with.
She most certainly didn't want to go, but if she wanted to save herself the humiliation of explaining the petty joke she'd been playing on them, she'd do it.
Blaise simply waved a hand in the air, apparently not bothered that she wasn't at all interested in him. "You have awful taste, Zabini." Draco spat and Eden couldn't help but to let out an almost inaudible sigh of annoyance. He'd approached her to make her a part of his and Blaise's group, and yet he insisted on being an asshole.
"Sorry, darling, but you're a stone cold bitch whose first instinct is to throw punches." Draco smiled cruelly. "Darling? God, you really are turning into Vincent." Eden rolled her eyes, completely aware of how she was revealing too much in retaliating, but not caring enough to stop.
She'd never put herself in situations where she was around people who enjoyed provoking her. In fact, Eden feared that people were secretly intimidated by her quietness. So, she wasn't exactly sure of how to handle the two boys, who most certainly weren't afraid of testing her patience.
"Oh, so she does have a sense of humour?" Draco cocked his eyebrows. "I just don't like to waste it on perverts who sleep around then never talk to the girl again." Eden smiled sarcastically. "Oh, what a saint you are." Draco praised. "If you wanted to tell us you're a virgin, you know you could've just said so, right?" He frowned with false sympathy.
Eden furrowed her brows, she'd definitely said too much. No, she wasn't a virgin, but she couldn't exactly tell them that. She turned back to the cauldron, stirring it anti-clockwise. "It makes sense." Blaise grinned, and Eden knew they'd assumed that they were right.
