Eden brought a hand up to the necklace around her neck, clinging to it firmly to calm her nerves. Something always went wrong at the Christmas ball that the Oakley family threw ever year for the Wizards of England. The only difference was that this year-- she'd be the cause of it.
Many students at Hogwarts attended with their parents, but Eden's mother was a muggle, so she never came. For once, this was a relief. "Eden." Hannah Oakley--Levi and Vincent's mother-- stepped forward to kiss Eden on either cheek. "You look absolutely stunning." She smiled kindly, brushing a lock of chestnut-brown hair behind her ears.
"Thank you, Mrs Oakley. My mother sends her best wishes." Eden curtsied. "Oh, you must tell Vivian that we'd love to have you both around for dinner one evening these holidays." Hannah went on before another guest approached to converse with her.
"How is Vivian?" Levi appeared, offering an arm out--which Eden took. "Still working 24/7." Eden frowned as they began a lap around the ballroom. "And what about you? Still at Flourish and Blotts?"
"I am." Eden shrugged. "I don't mind. Madam Rossetti is usually nice company and everything that doesn't go towards bills and groceries I get to keep." Eden smiled. In truth, she didn't mind working--not when she was completely aware of how much her mother had sacrificed for the life she now lived.
Edens hand subtly brushed at her dress--double checking that her wand still rested into the secret pocket she'd sewn. Wands weren't allowed at the ball. "I saw Faye already, but I don't think Francesca's here yet, which is unusual--oh, never mind. She's with the alcohol." Levi rolled his eyes as Eden scanned the crowd.
"Who are you looking for?" Levi followed her gaze. "No one." Eden shrugged, guiding them over to Francesca. "What will get me drunk the fastest?" Eden scanned the table. "Wha-" Levi began, before Francesca cut him off. "Nothing here, but I brought vodka." Francesca whipped a flask out of mid-air.
"You want to get drunk? Are you insane?" Levi hissed. "Sorry, I worded that badly." Eden sighed. "I don't want to get drunk." She shook her head. "I want to get someone else drunk." She picked up an empty glass and tipped half the vodka inside.
"Whoever's drinking that is going to die." Fracnesca grinned. "Why did you bring enough to kill somebody." Eden frowned. "I'm only joking." Francesca snatched the flask back and took a sip. "So, who's your victim?" She raised her eyebrows. "You'll see." Eden winked, just as her eyes laid on her target.
Nearby, at the bottom of the staircase, stood Draco Malfoy and his parents. His mother, Narcissa, was dressed in an elegant navy blue gown, her hair tied up in a sophisticated braid around her head. Lucius was dressed in black and white, a staff in his hand as he eyed the room.
