I crumble completely when you cry.

-Arctic Monkeys

And we're back to square one.

Vivian had not asked any questions as Eden slid the living room door open and climbed into her mothers lap--tears streaming down her face. Most likely Vivian had heard the whole argument.

A child. She felt like a child.

----

"Third years, quiet down please!" Hagrid bellowed over the crowd as the seventh years boarded the Hogwarts Express. Eden had seen Draco a little earlier as he'd stood with Blaise and Theo, She had tried to catch his eye but he had purposefully avoided it. Ouch.

"I'm spending the second week of Christmas break with Luna and her father." Eden yawned into the back of her hand. She had foolishly slept in every morning since the Summer break had started and now she'd have to readjust to the early mornings. "Oh, Eden, how did all the Oakley balls go?" Francesca gasped as they claimed a compartment at the end of the train.

"Nothing out of the ordinary." Eden frowned. "The third ball was exactly like one of Vincents stupid parties. A pathetic excuse for a ball, honestly." She sighed. "Levi told me his brother had two bruises on his face when he saw him the next morning." Francesca added.

"Really? I left fairly early, so I didn't see anything. What happened?" Eden lied. You don't open up to them, Draco had told her a few days earlier. "He said he didn't dare ask, so I don't know." Francesca giggled. "He probably hit on the wrong girl too many times, I'm surprised it wasn't you who punched him."

"I wish it had been." She gazed out the window to where Draco and his friends were still lined up.

----

Alone, in the kitchens, Eden waited for the painting to swing open and for Draco to storm in and haul a dozen more insults at her. She'd been expecting it for days now. For the knock on her front door while Vivian worked. For him to throw the compartment doors open on the Hogwarts Express. So far, he had said nothing. Hadn't looked at her. The thought sent her spiralling--it nauseated her.

"Will Master Draco be joining you?" Winky's head barely stood above her little table. "I'm not sure. Don't save him anything, just in case." Eden glanced down at her pumpkin soup. Winky paused for a moment. "Is everything okay, Master Eden?"

"Yes, I'm just a little tired from the train." Eden smiled. "Did you enjoy the pastries?" She changed the topic. She had brought custard and berry danishes for the elves to eat. "Oh, yes, they were delicious." Winky rubbed her belly, and then she was back to work.

Eden gradually spooned the pumpkin soup into her mouth, staring up at the painting as she did so. Still, it did not open, so she asked for a coffee--which she also drank as slowly as she could. Nothing. The elves had begun to pack away their things and many had retired for the night.

"Would you like another coffee, Master Eden?" Dobby wandered over--his clothes bright and colourful against his dull skin. "No, I should get to bed." Eden cleared her throat and pulled away from the table. It was 12am. Breakfast, he'll come for breakfast.

----

He did not come for breakfast.

Eden had never been in a genuine fight with Draco before. She hadn't really considered them close enough to fight until recently. Merlin, I've really pissed him off, the thought slipped into Edens mind at least once an hour. Particularly now, as she sat in the back row of the Transfigurations classroom while he sat at the front.
