The last period concluded.
Ace and Grim were practically knocked out by boredom, while Deuce and I were jotting down notes; more so for them than for ourselves.
"So much stuff already on the first day," Deuce somewhat complained as he packed his stuff to head out.
"You could say that again. Yo Deuce, could you wake up the two sleep-heads? I'm still writing the last bit here."
"Of course, sure. Oh, and you can use my notes for reference."
I promptly thanked the navy-head as he lends me his copy for that class's lecture. He soon went and tried to bring the two blockheads out of their beauty sleep and I silently chuckled at the sight. Grim and Ace both kept swiping away Deuce's hand and continuing to snooze off. 'Grim and Ace do annoy the other, but they do sometimes think alike,' I thought.
My focus returned to writing my notes – they weren't the neatest, but they were doable. I also must thank Deuce for giving me a spare notebook and pen of his, without his generosity, your girl wouldn't survive class on memory alone.
As I continued to mark down keynotes, a group of students was about to pass by me. I wouldn't usually mind for such a thing, but as soon as they did pass by me one of them side-swiped my notebook. It landed ungracefully on the floor and the little group just laughed to themselves.
"Of course he'd need to take notes, a dud like him couldn't ever grasp the lessons the first-time."
"He shouldn't even need notes, like it'll ever be of help to him!"
"Man, kinda sad he's working hard on something he'll never get to do... Hahahaha!"
Those were some of the comments I heard as I stood up from my seat and collected the notebook. I let out a weary sigh, unsure what to do or how to respond. I was peeved no doubt, but they were sorta right... right?
"Hey, what's the deal huh!?"
I whipped my head over to see Ace yelling – no doubt to the group who graciously made me pick up my own notebook.
"Hmm? Got a problem there, bud?"
"Do y'all have nothing better to do than pick on this guy!"
I panicked and looked around the room. The teacher had long left the room but there were plenty of learners loitering in the classroom and plenty more out in the halls. Ace's scream did not go unnoticed by the others and some were even clueing into this whole affair.
"What's it to you, Ace~? Also, couldn't help but notice you've gotten buddy-buddy with the pipsqueak. What's with that!"
"None of your goddamn business. Now answer my question, you jerks."
"H-hey guys, here's not the time or place for this," Deuce placed himself in between Ace and the group.
"What the fuck Deuce? You're gonna let these shitheads go?"
Deuce went up close to Ace, "No, what I'm doing is making sure we don't make a bigger scene than what you already have. We can settle this outside."
"Yah, follow your friend Ace~ After all you all don't want to be expelled for real this time~"
These fellows... were getting on my nerves. And while I didn't have the know-how on what to do when they insulted me, I didn't like how they were dragging Ace and Deuce down. With shaky feet and shallow breathing, I stepped forward: "C-could you please back off? We were just minding our own business here, so—"
