It was a weird sensation, passing through the frame of a Mirror to end up somewhere completely new. It felt like a normal walk past a door, but the whole mechanic of it just boggled my mind.
Grim was in a similar boat as I was. When he was shot out from the other side, he shook his body with his fur on ends before finally settling into the scene.
A moonlit field of overgrown weeds and flora laid before us. The trees were towering around our small figures, their branches seemingly reaching out to grab us. The most prominent feature in front of us was a large opening to a cave; rusty rail-tracks laid about with empty mine-carts scattered around.
"T-the hell... it couldn't be t-this cold than the s-school..." Ace breathed through his shivering teeth.
"I-I should've been more pr-prepared..." Deuce whispered out while vigorously rubbing his arms.
I too had a sudden rush of icy air as the wind howled through the forest.
"Hmm? Why do you all look stupid-AAAH!" I yanked Grim off the ground and snuggled him in my grasp.
"H-hey unfair!" Ace ran towards us and tried to tug Grim from my grasp.
The next minute, Ace and I were playing Tug of War with Grim unfortunately being the rope for our fight. He wailed as we squeezed and stretched the raccoon until Deuce came charging at us.
"S-stop it you two, if you want to warm up let's just huddle?"
Ace finally let go of the fire cat and knitted his eyebrows together, "Like hell I'd get close to any of you i-idiots!"
Another gust of icy winds passed by, immediately making all of us jump into a warmth hug, with Grim being the center.
"GYAAH! I-I CAN'T-... HMPH, BREATHE!"
We were pressed against each other, shivering and grasping for warmth. Waddling together like a flock of penguins, we all avoided eye contact or any other form of communication in fact. The only noise you could hear is the plea for air by Grim, and the rest of us awkwardly whistling to fill the air.
After staying in this awkward huddle group for a while we all managed to get some bearing and quickly tried to forget the previous scene. It was still cold, but we at least got used to it. Grim was unfortunately dazed since he was practically squeezed to death by all of us.
Deuce coughed, breaking the ice before stating, "This is the Dwarfs' Mine... Long ago, this place seemed to be a bustling place to mine for magic stones..."
Grim stumbled a bit, regaining his balance before muttering, "Uu... It feels spooky here..." I went behind the feline and scooped him up, making him rest in arms. He gladly melted in my grasp and gathered a more steady breathing.
"Oh, there's a house back there. Let's go see if they know anything," Ace pointed at a small cottage across the brook.
Walking towards the little house, I noticed vines and plants had dug and twisted themselves into the cracks of the building. And approaching the door, its handle and hinges were painted in rust.
I heard Deuce gulp as he went up to knock on the aging wooden door. "Good evening!" A good amount of silence was kept and soon Deuce pushed on the door, "...Is it empty? It doesn't look like anyone's been taking care of it."
Seemingly gotten back to normal, Grim leapt from my arms and followed the navy-head, only to immediately spit out, "Pwah! I'm getting spiderwebs in my face! Pweh pweh!"
