We had arrived at the conference building where the ball had been held at nearly midnight, the day after our conversation in the shower.

We had decided to visit both the conference building and what was left of the house that the bomb had gone off in. We needed answers so it was best to leave no stone unturned.

Louis parked in the back alley and we stepped out of the car with guns in hand, taking the back entrance into the building that led us into the basement.

It was just as crowded as the last time we had been there. The lights were completely off, so the only light sources we had were the meager shine of our cell phone flashlights.

We wove between the stacked tables and chairs, making no noise even though it didn't look like there was any event happening in the venue on this particular night.

I let Louis take the lead as we crept cautiously up the stairs to the main floor, with our guns held at a diagonal to the floor.

The ballroom was strangely beautiful when it was empty like this. Moonlight streamed through the tall windows and cast shadows on the white flooring.

All of the tables that had been present for the event we attended were now gone so there was only open space in the room, which wasn't great for our plan of being sneaky.

"Let's take a look around and see if we can find an office or record boom or anything that will give us a name." He whispered in my ear so that his voice wouldn't echo around the empty ballroom.

I nodded, starting off around the right wall of the ballroom while he took the left wall.

There were several doors along the wall and I was just hoping that one would lead to an office of some sort.

The first was labeled as a janitorial closet, and the next two were bathrooms.

I was wondering if Louis was having any better luck since he had disappeared through a door on the other side of the room. I was too nervous to call out to him through the silence and ask what it was and if he had found anything.

The next door that I happened upon was unlabeled, so I pulled a bobby pin out of my hair, deftly turning it in the lock so that I could hit the tumblers.

The door clicked open with a small creak and I slid the bobby pin back into my hair before stepping into the room quickly with my gun held out in front of me to startle anyone who may have been in the room.

My eyes widened when I stepped inside. This wasn't at all what I was expecting.

Instead of an office or a storage room like I was expecting to see, it was a conference room.

The walls were painted a deep red color and there was a large oak table in the center of the room, around which five large men in suits were sitting, staring at me in utter shock.

Thankfully I was able to shake of my shock before they were theirs, and I kept the gun pointed at them with one hand while I held my finger up to my lips, gesturing for them to stay quiet.

They were the same men that we had seen at the table in the corner the first night that we were here. One of the men was the one that I had fallen on and stolen the address of the virilium from. I didn't think he recognized me without my dress and silly vain temperament, but I didn't want to take chances either way. I needed to move quickly.
