Ten years prior
Lily danced around in a field. The moonlight illuminated the flowers around her. "Come on Alastor! Join me."
The older boy shook his head,"You know I can't dance, Lily. Also be careful, you'll get bug bites."
The eight year old girl crossed her arms,"Since when has something you couldn't do ever stopped you from trying? Hmm?"
"Here we go with your lecturing." He looked at his wristwatch, "Its late. We need to head to the shelter." Alastor shut his book and stood up.
"Come. Let's go." He held out his hand.
The siblings made their way back to the makeshift wood and cardboard shelter they were staying at ever since they escaped the clutches of their father.
Matthew Arkes, a man who never went through with his word and found joy in the suffering of others. Even his own children. The man enjoyed seeing pain so much he killed his own wife in front of Alastor, leaving the boy scarred with the memory of her head rolling on the ground to his feet.
Lily never witnessed the cruel world Alastor had. He protected her with his ability and shielded away the bad things. He knew he had to get her out of there. And so he did.
In the middle of the night they ran away without looking back.
Lily tucked her legs under her dress,"It's cold. I wish we had blankets." She looked at the sky.
"We will one day. When we get to safety," Alastor smiled at his sister.
"Safety, huh?" A deep voice spoke from behind them. "Did you really think you could run forever my children?"
Lily screamed and Alastor quickly grabbed her and darted off.
"Oh please, do you really think running could help you?" Arkes laughed and held his out.
Alastor turned around and created a huge force field in front of him and his sister. "You won't have her!"
"I don't want Lily," The older man flicked his wrist and the slash swerved.
Alastor didn't have time to react,"Huh?"
Crimson blood painted his face and a ball of white string rolled to his feet. No, not a ball. A head.
Alastor dropped to his knees and began to shake,"Lily..." He placed his head on top of his sister's head,"Lily. No...I said I'd protect you."
Arkes wiped his hand on his coat and scoffed, "You were bred to kill and to destroy. Did you really think you could protect anyone? Everyone you love will end up the same way as your mother and now your useless sister."
It began to rain. The sound of raindrops were like firecrackers in Alastors ears. Everything hurt. "I'll kill you!" He screamed at his father.
Arkes only laughed once more,"Good. That is your destiny. To kill me and take over the underworld. You'll rule over criminals just as I do. It is your legacy."
Alastor shook his head,"I won't. I'll kill you then I'll help people! I'll put an end to criminals like you! I'll make this nightmare end."

The day before Dazai and Zeros mission"What you got there, Alastor?" Dazai asked Zero.
"Flowers. Lilies, Asters and Roses." He smiled softly at the arrangement he had gotten for his room.
These flowers were his family. His sister, him and his mother. They were, true beauty.
Dazai wiped something off of one of the asters, "You got something red on it."
Zero looked at Dazais finger, a dark crimson speck lay on his pointer finger.
His days of bloodshed were not over.
