The window howled as dusk approached. The building was quiet and bare besides for two people inside speaking to each other in voices barley above a whisper.

A dim light illuminated the room which was lined with hundreds of books and texts. A single desk sat in the back of the room with two chairs and papers scattered across top of it.

"I still don't understand why you joined the Guild my dear Alastor," A man with shaggy brown hair spoke as he skimmed through his book, checking for any mistakes.

"As I've said, many times, I don't know why I joined. I just...had to do some things and then some things happened. Then I met you, Poe, and joined. Well, i joined because of Karl actually," The white haired man looked at the raccoon that sat on Poes head.

Poe sighed, "I sense a loneliness in you. I can tell there is someone you miss. According to what I know about you, they are here as well."

"It's a few people, actually. From the Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia." He sighed and looked to the ground, his eyes focusing on the brown tile.

"Give me some names. I want to know who. I won't tell a soul," He held out his pinkie,"Promise."

Alastor trusted him not to lie,"Ok. From the Port Mafia there is Chuuya Nakahara. He's a little red head who yells a lot. There's also Higuchi. They both helped me a few times."

Poe tilted his head,"And the Detective agency?"

"All of them. Dazai, Yosano, the siblings and..." He chuckled, "Your enemy Ranpo."

"You knew him?" Poe looked surprised. After knowing Alastor for a year, he had never told him this.

"Yeah. Hed always make me buy him snacks and cook him dinner. I didn't mind though, he'd play with my hair which felt nice. It made up for everything," He leaned back and smiled. Karl came and laid in his lap.

"You better not go betraying me for Ranpo," Poe crossed his arms and let off a huff.

Alastor didn't respond. That was not something he could promise. If it came down to it, he would risk his life for the Armed Detective Agency, even after all this time.

"You should get some sleep now, Poe, " He stood, picking up Karl and setting him on the table. "Goodnight."

Poe sighed,"Goodnight my dear Alastor."

Alastor opened the door to his room and walked inside. He was met with a full body mirror hung on the dark brown wall.

He closed the door and walked towards the mirror. His personality wasn't the only thing that had changed, his appearance had as well.

The once well kept, shoulder length hair was now down to the middle of his back. It was wavy and never stayed down completely straight. The hopeful light in his eyes had died out and left eyebags. His skin wasn't any better either. Stress caused breakouts on his cheeks every once in a while.

He rarely tried to dress up nicely anymore, usually just wearing a black dress shirt and jeans with whatever shoes he could find for that day. Poe tried to conveniently leave certain clothing or shoes out so he'd wear them.

Alastor examined his hair for a moment and touched the right side of his head,"My clip..." It had fallen off during battle and he didn't have time to find it. He took it as a sign that Dazai, and the others, had given up on him.

He missed the clip already though. The rough detail on the red, almost crimson petals of the flower and how it always clipped perfectly in his hair. He missed how Dazai used to tease him by taking it off and clipping it on random places. Alastor missed Dazai.

Water gathered at his eyes and with a blink tears started to slowly fall. He slammed his fist next to the mirror and slid to the ground. "Let me go back. Please. I want to go back," He choked back a sob.

He hit his fist on the wall over and over, "I hate this. I hate this. I hate this."

The door creaked open and Poe sighed as he saw Alastor crying while crouched on the ground. This was not the first time, but it was the first time he knew why.

He crouched down in front of the white haired man and pulled him in for a hug,"Come here. It's going to be ok."

Alastor shook his head, "It won't be. I can't stay here."

Poe thought for a moment before whispering something to Alastor. "If you run away, I won't tell Fitzgerald. I'll let you go without saying a word."

"Poe..." He looked at his friend,"I can't. I can't just leave you."

He shook his head,"I'll be ok. I've got Karl and my novels. I'll even write a novel about you to remember you by!"

"But I-"

Poe held a finger to Alastors mouth, "Get you things."

Alastor hugged Poe tightly,"Thank you Edgar."

Poe blushed in embarrassment when he heard his first name, "Don't mention it."

Alastor packed a small grey backpack full of things and was off into the night. He wasn't sure were he was going but he'd end up somewhere.

Little did he know, someone was waiting for his return.
