Your lies

After months passed, Zero had finally gotten comfortable in the Armed Detective Agency. He tried to be helpful by cooking food for those who wanted it and keeping the place clean. Unfortunately, Dazai or Ranpo always messed it up within ten minutes. It was exhausting.

"Hey Zero, can you pass me a drink please?" Ranpo asked, looking over the couch. He always seemed to be in Zeros apartment trying to steal his food.

"No." Zero said as he continued to scrub the counters.

"Why?"

"I'm already cleaning up your mess from breakfast, Ranpo. If you want a drink please get up and get it yourself."

Ranpo groaned and stood, "Fine. I will. Wait, I have go to work. Ugh, this is the worst day ever." He sighed,"You and Dazai are off today right?"

Zero nodded, "Mhm."

"Lucky." Ranpo said as he left the apartment. He nearly forgot his shoes as he left.

The mention of Dazai reminded Zero that he hadn't seen him in a while,"Shit...Dazai!" Zero walked to his apartment.

He knocked three times before opening the door. First, he noticed how bare and sad the room was, then he noticed Dazai humming as he hung a noose to the ceiling.

"Hey Zero!" He smiled.

The white haired man sighed and walked inside the room. He knocked Dazai off the stool and stood on it. "Dazai you're a real hassel sometimes," he said as he started to untie the noose.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Dazai whined.

"Taking this down so you don't do anything stupid," he hopped down and begun slicing the rope up with a pocket knife.

"Tch. I'll just buy another rope. This one will be even more durable and strong! For the perfect suicide." Dazai smiled and starred at the ceiling. His eyes glittered with anticipation.

"I'll just take it down again. Then buy you a therapist or something. What do you even hope to achieve by killing yourself anyway, Dazai?" Zero turned towards the man, his head tilted causing his hair to fall over his left eye.

"Oh you know! I'll find the meaning of life!" Dazai twirled around.

Zero sighed,"Your lies are frustrating. You won't tell the truth and I can't figure it out."

"I doubt you ever will, Ariya." His voice was back to the normal, dark tone.

"I'll keep trying until I do. You are a complete mystery to me, as is Yasano. Anyway, until then if you die I'll join you and make your life in hell a nightmare. So don't die. Got it?"

"Ooh so scary. Are you threatening me? Hmm?" Dazai stood in front of Zero. His gaze held curiosity and hostility.

"No. I mean it. Now help me pick up these loose rope strands and finish cleaning."

Dazai only stared at Zero for a long moment. He then left the room.

Zero sighed. Dazai was frustrating. Nothing about him made sense. He was also, utterly terrifying at times and unpredictable in many ways.

"Here you go." Dazai dropped a trash bag on Zeros head before leaving the room once more.

"Oi! Come back here and help me!"

"Nah I'm good. Have fun Ala-Ariya," Dazai covered a grin as he strolled out of the room.

"Curiosity," Zero muttered then extended his arm out to Dazai, flinging him back into the room. "What did you try to say?"

"Hmm?" Dazai hummed.

"You read the folder didn't you..." Zeros eyes widened. Of course he read it. Why was he just now slipping up with the names though?

The man let out a short laugh and looked Zero in the eyes,"I didn't."

Zero dropped Dazai,"Then how did you...? When? For how long?" Panic swirled throughout Zeros body. No one was supposed to know anything about him. Not even his true name. Only people he trusted knew and were allowed to say that, Dazai wasn't one of them.

Dazai didn't speak, although he maintained eye contact with Zero, hoping the white haired ghost would figure out the answer on his own. He knew he would.

"You're just that smart, aren't you?" His voice was more quiet now.

"Now you're getting it, Alastor," Dazai Osamu stood up and pat Zeros head,"You should finish picking up that rope now."

"Yeah...I should." Zero started putting the rope piece into the bag while Dazai stood there, studying his movements and expressions. Zero felt intimidated by his presence, but knew he wouldn't hurt him, for now at least.

When Zero finished he stood up and tied the bag.

Dazai clapped,"Good job!"

"Praise me again and I'll stab you. Also, don't say that name around anyone else," Zero didn't look at him as he spoke.

"I won't. Now go. Shu shu. Out." Dazai pushed Zero out of the room and closed the door.

The white haired man took a deep breathe before walking to the trashcan. What went through Dazais mind?
